Finally made it back from the much anticipated Arkansas / Memphis trip. All went well with the 700 plus mile round trip with no trailer problems. We did seem to get A LOT of stares and pointing by passing motorist as we journeyed to our fist Destination: Village Creek State Park, Arkansas.

Upon arrival, we were impressed with the level of up keep on the park – All the signs were being repainted, the road resurfaced, and grounds clipped to perfection – And staying during the week wasn’t too bad either; we almost had the whole park to ourselves. The only exception was a older couple who spent two days a few spots down – you’ll hear more about them later.

The plan was to stay there a couple of days with a trip to Memphis Tennessee to see the Pandas at the Memphis zoo. You see there are only four zoos in the US that have Giant Pandas; San Diego, Atlanta, Memphis, and Washington National zoo. After setting up camp on Monday we rested for the next days excitement – Pandas Our goal for Tuesday was to See the three “P’s”: Pandas, Polar Bears, and Penguins and we were NOT disappointed. Yes, Pandas are really cute up close,

Penguins really do walk funny,

and Polar bears can do more than just sell coke at Christmas time.

We spent the majority of the day at the zoo and saw every species that they had ( I’m sure we may have missed a few).

Next we toured “Mud Island” and the town of Memphis. Sorry no Graceland during this visit – not a big Elvis fan. However, we did stop by and see the much anticipated mosaic Egg. Finally we ended the day with a walk along the Mississippi river.

Wednesday, we had just about enough of the skeeters at the park and decided that we would spend the rest of our time at DeGray state park. We managed to get a water front spot with a fantastic view.

Can you find the the “bug” in the picture?

We were visited daily by ducks looking for and easy meal – which was eagerly provided by our daughter.

Yes, we did have some rain – once in the morning and some more the next day – but it didn’t dampen our spirits because the camper didn’t leak – YEAH. Oh, remember that couple that was there at village creek, guess who was at DeGray? Yep, the came too and we gained some new friends. You see a week on the road wasn’t that bad at all. Just enough space in the camper for some real comfort and knowing that all everything was just fine. Glad to be back home

Great pics! Thanks for sharing.

Yep, the skeeters at Village Creek can be killers, but it is such a nice park. DeGray is not too shabby, either. Of course, I think Arkansas has awesome state parks, and not just because I live here.
