Gilbert Lake State Park (NY)

Now that we have Spot road and camp-worthy, we intend to hit some state campgrounds on weekends we can afford to take off. This weekend it was Gilbert Lake State Campground just north of Oneonta, NY.

The "lake" is more liker a small pond, no motor boats, and you have to pay per day to put your non-motorized craft on the water. The beach is nice, but small. There is a nice pavilion there that can be rented that we saw a wedding party using yesterday. The wedding was on a deck overlooking the lake, with the reception in the adjacent good sized enclosed building (the pavilion). We hiked some fairly steep trails as well.

Our impression was that this park was old and not well cared for, considering other NYS parks we've been at. We probably won't go back. So far, Keuka Lake State Park is our favorite!

That doesn't seem to be that far from the finger lakes region... Have you ever camped there?

In particular, have you ever gone to Watkins Glen?

Evening Mike!

We've camped quite a bit in the finger Lakes region. Here's a report from earlier this summer at a state campground there http://tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=45430

I used to go to the Glen for grand prix races with my dad as a kid.

We like Letchworth State Park too, but love Keuka for the lake.
