Your reference to a skunk at Big Bend brought back lots of memories. I was camping there in November, 1972 and had done the South Rim trail during the afternoon. I was very soundly asleep in my tent that evening and felt a varmit enter the tent - sat up quickly and we both froze- the varmit left, probably a skunk -luckily without leaving his calling card behind :frightened: . I barricaded the entrance with a cooler after that encounter.

My favorite NP campground is Toroweep in Grand Canyon. You do need 4x4 to get to it but it is worth it.

I heartily endorse the recommendation of Manzanita Lake campground at Lassen Volcanic National Park. Stayed there last summer with the TD and had a great trip.
