Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Shelly and I finally managed to hook up with Tony and his wife for a day or so at their camp on BLM land East of Bluff Utah



Had a great time! Lots of story swapping and Tony led us back to some ruins





So how is it that the ancient ones' red paint still holds up when modern red signs in the Southwest only last a few years?

It was a great trip, although all too short. Someday, Shelly and I want to spend much more time in Utah exploring the sites that literally stretch across the southern part of the state.

Wonderful area. Did you venture west of Bluff? One of my very favorite areas is along and north/south of Hwy 95 between Bluff and Hanksville. We arrived home from 10 days there yesterday. No pictures to show at present. I did not take many as I have photographed darn near everything there, more than once, over the past 30 years.

Hi Don,

We didn't this time. This was a quick 3 day trip to meet Tony and his wife. It'll literally take months to see everything we want to see in Southern Utah from Arches to Zion and all of the BLM, National Forest, and Tribal Park sites in the area, not to mention a visit to the Northern side of Grand Canyon someday. Someday when we have time in the Spring or Fall we'll need to make a few (dozen) trips exploring the region.

Dang, you guy's have been doing some traveling. The only part of Utah we haven't seen yet is the 4 corners. One day.

Can't say I recommend the literal 4 Corners. Big concrete slab, and it was poured pre-GPS so it is evidently a few hundred yards off. Not that it really matters. Sometimes there are Navajo selling their wares on the road in (not the time I was there though).

I do highly recommend nearby Monument Valley, a Navajo Tribal Park. All of the Road Runner cartoons were filmed there, as were many westerns. I've been there once in my pre-Shelly days, and need to take her sometime.



Hmm, guess the saguaro must be a transplant...

When we go next time, I plan to take a sign that says "Oops" and hold it up as I jump off of a small outcropping. Hopefully Shelly can get a good picture!

Depending on how adventuresome one is you may want to visit Lewis Lodges north up Comb Wash, past Hotel Rock a way with some fairly serious rock crawling. Also accessible from the north via Beef Basin and less of a 4x4 chaellenge. In any event, the hiking also involves some sandstone sloping terrain but the ruins are amazing. We most often accessed from the south and then exit through Canyonlands NP. Lewis Lodges were undiscovered (by white men) until 1956.

And a fine rendevous it was!












Now... we were gone just long enough that the poles coulda flipped, but I think we were west of Bluff.

It was really great to meet Tom and Shelly face to face and view their wonderfully built teardrop.
