Identification

I don't collect cast iron but love cooking with it.

I have a 10" single handle pot, 6" deep. The lid doubles as a griddle and is 1" deep. On the lid is a large star, centered in the star is a circle with a cross 9 (+), Inside the cross, both horizontal and vertical is '4 IN 1'. On the lid handle is the letter 'W'. The lid has a raised boss opposite the handle that indexes into a slit on the rim of the pot.

I was given this about 15 years ago and it had a thick layer of burned on crud that had to be scraped and wire-brushed.

Any idea as to maufacturer or age?

Do you have a photo of it you could post?

Oh, oh, another place to discuss iron cookware. That's been my hobby collecting it for the past 40+ years.

On to your question: The 4-in-1 pots were made by Lodge starting around 1940 (with a hammered surface) and continued into maybe the 1980s or later with a smooth surface. 4-in-1 refers to the uses of the pan which are dutch oven, chicken fryer, skillet, and shallow skillet or griddle. Very versatile piece.

Thank you; this does have the hammered finish
