Dutch oven have to be the "camping" type for fire

Postby ajricher » Sun Oct 11, 2009 1:11 pm

SO, wandering through the flea market today i bagged a largish dutch oven, apparently unused though a bit rusty, for the sum of $3.00.

I can cope.

Thing is, though, that it is the traditional type with the domed lid and a bail handle, rather than the "camping" type with the dished lid for coals and the trivet legs.

Personally, i can still see myself baking buiscits in this thing on the stovetop in my trailer, but what about for use over coals in a campfire?

A bit fuzzy on this whole camping cooking fire not gas thing... :)

Worst case would be that you build an adjustable-height stand to hang it from... that way you'd have even more control over cooking heat!

I would think... but then again, I too am new to cast iron cooking.

You can also get a camp lid to fit it and either stick in in the coals or on a trivet and cook that way.

I just don't see how you can sleep at night for that offer of $3.00 8) - however here's what I use and may be a solution for your problem
