Actually, you use it to warm up your muscles before lifting your DOs.

I must confess, more than one of those has been sacrificed for its materials in my machine shop... :o

Mostr of them are decent cast iron, and they're great source material for things like steam engine cylinders and pistons, flywheels and handles/handwheels for machinery.
