Where are the Cast Iron police when you need them!

On my way to my favorite veggie market today I passed by this house and glanced over and saw this:

I think I saw more under a shed to the left. What a waste of good iron! :(

Becca I know what you mean we went to a flea market by Athens, GA (UGA) and one guy had 3 really old Griswalds that looked really nice and he had them priced for $10 a piece then I looked closer and all 3 had lil holes drilled in the curve under the handles so they could be hung on the wall!!!! As I was wlking away the guy said he would drop the price to sale and I just said doesn't matter if you can't cook with them!

Cliff, for all I know it might all be junk but maybe not. I wanted to get a close up shot but didn't want to stop in front of his house to take pictures - I took that shot on the fly.

Brings up a pretty good question. The holes could be welded up.

If I were to use my limited welding knowledge, I'd either braze with silver solder, or TIG with silicon-bronze (aka Everdur).

Would either of those processes introduce something that would render said cast-iron unusable to cook with, like zinc, lead, cadmium or something?

Just wondering...

Steve, I'm so tempted to go ask him/them if I could look at their collection. I hope it's all made it China crap and not the good stuff.
