Best Way to Season a Double Pie Iron?

I found a Rome cast iron double pie iron today... :applause:
I usually season CI in the oven, but can't do that with a pie iron because of the handles. I'm thinking the best way would be to season it on the grill (since I can't really build a campfire on my patio...)

Any other ideas?

And has anyone ever baked tortillas in a pie iron?

If you had patience you could use a blowtorch.

Seriously, you should be able to wrap the wood handles in a couple layers of aluminum foil and stick the whole thing in the oven. Or, unscrew the handles. BTDT. The grill seems like a decent solution, also. Take the grate out and stick it right down in the lava rocks, yes?

I've never tried tortillas in them ... I have enough trouble not burning the bread on my apple pies...

All seasoned (on the grill, in the pouring rain!)
Now another question--I keep my DO in a DO cover when not in use. How do folks keep/cover their pie irons when not in use?
