New addition: #8 GRISWOLD CAST IRON TITE TOP D.OVEN & TR

Postby CAJUN LADY » Tue Sep 16, 2008 10:17 am

I'm excited... :woohoo:... I got a new addition to the C.I. family last night...it is being shipped today. Ma-mere, my grandmother, used to have one but some sneaky relative took it before I could be the sneaky one.

Bob, I've got one that looks just like that one but it's a taller. I want one that is shorter for when the D.O. sits on the D.O. table. I use the other one when cooking on the ground.

Hector, yep, got it on Ebay. I really, really have to stay away from Ebay.

That is similar to the Maier lifter but the price is good and the cause is even better. I have two already or I would order one from them.

Hi Eunice...long time no see. I wanted to cook a deer roast but their all gone so I may just cook a bird (a chicken bird) or do a rib roast in the oven with salt like Dean and Joannie do over coals.

Is that glazed ceramic over cast iron? That's a pretty piece.

Even better--hard fired porcelain over cast iron. LeCrueset and Staub both make them.

I like the tomato, myself...and Staub makes an oval porcelain enamelled cast iron DO where each color has a different bas-relief design on the bowl, and a molded 3D of the design is the lid handle. The orange is a pumpkin on the lid and around the sides, the red is a tomatoe (what else!), the blue one is a berry, the green one is a jalapeno pepper, the brown one is an acorn, etc.

Doug and several others that I saw had those at the IRG II, they work pretty slick.

I have one of those lid lifters....but upon closer examination and a google search....it came from some Indian manufacturing company that is cranking out all sorts of iron/steel stuff. VR industries... For me...knowing this now....I'd get one from the guys that Bob posted, only a couple of bucks difference, support the scouts! .... keep it over here. I just didn't pay attention at the time. That design does work well! Doug

I just found another piece of Cast Iron hiding in the garage cabinet for the last 13 years. I can't even remember where I got it. It's a Wagner 5 qt. with no lid (I think I have one that will fit). No rust on it...great condition. I really need to clean out my garage more often!
