inside roughness

Postby John T. Hodgen » Wed Oct 29, 2008 4:21 pm

Hi all,
My Baby and I bought a little dutch oven but the inside has a rough spot on the side like it wasn't polished smooth. My question is what to do to get it like my other C.I. Can a file, sandpaper or bead blaster smooth it out. I have taken Rusted C.I. pans and blasted them like New. What do you PROS think?  :? Thanks for your responses in advance 8) -- John T.

Unless it is a fairly major spot I don't think any of the methods you discribed would do much harm. Of course you would have to reseason the oven. JMHO.

I just purchased 2 lodge skillets at Goodwill ( $1.00 & $ 1.50) :D
The were unused and in brand new condition. The insides were as rough as 60 grit sandpaper. I was ready to emery paper them down and mentioned it to my mother (now quickly approaching 80) and she said not to.

The "tooth" in the finish will help the seasoning to build on the skillet.
any truth to this ? Opinions wanted !!!!

you don't get to 80 without knowing something! sounds plausable to me - Just as long as you don't try and polish the inside

I'll agree with that. The "patina" on a well used (and cared for) piece of cast is made up of tiny little pieces of all the meals cooked in it...
