We were bad.....

Postby doug hodder » Sun May 03, 2009 11:56 pm

While at the Dam Gathering...5 of us took off and checked out some local thrift and antique stores in Redding....among the items purchased between us all were a late 1800's 7" waffle iron....10" hammered finish Griswold chicken fryer, maybe an early 40's deco electric waffle iron, some self basting lids, a #3 Wagner skillet...not purchased was a #4 skillet without a ring and some Wapak stuff, not Indian head Dean. A successful shopping trip was had by all, some fun getting lost with a GPS and going to stores that aren't in business anymore. There was a killer square waffle iron with 2 irons on it....price was a bit excessive however and an old 9" waffle iron. Doug

Nice stuff!
Now I gotta look around for those skillet covers....didn't even know they made them, we usually use an aluminum lid off an old long gone skillet.

Great finds. The short one is what I have in my trailer.
I was at a dog thing in Patterson where we had to put up with horrors of sprinkles and early morning sprinklers and could not share in the fine weather and food at the Dam. No shopping either but my brother dug out his early 70's camping gear, lightly used.

'73 Coleman in original box with original mantles and can of fuel.

3-burner stove with instructions and griddle #426D499

Non-label Dutch Oven with lid and very smooth inside.

I will be taking the DO home, the rest resides in Pleasanton CA and is available for reasonable offers.

I will try to get a shot of the stove before I leave today.

Nice stove Dennis....not as nice as the 2E I got from you IMHO, but nice, especially like the griddle option...
Here's my shopping trip find....now to find a lid for it...really thin walls on this one a Griswold, like they say on BBC bargain hunt...quality makes it. Now to bead blast and season.... Doug

Spider Man
That may require a new teardrop design to show it off.
Or is it just the stove grill that makes it look like it has legs.
Then it is a great chcken fryer.
Nice find, I just worked with family... but the bees arrive on Friday :applause:

Sorry Dennis...no legs on this one...that's the gas stove grate. I really liked the finish on it however, super smooth on the interior and rings like a bell!....it'll look great seasoned. Doug

Doug:
Nice finds on the CI. I got a Combo from Lodge that similar to your chicken fryer.

It's a good piece to carry. The lid serves as a skillet too. While not a vintage piece like yours, it's one of my favorites.

I think WallyWorld has that one right now, I've been thinking about picking it up.

I think it was more than that now but it still didn't seem to be a bad price...maybe 30 bucks?? Can't recall exactly.

Is there some kind of lip on one of them that keeps them together and seals them some. I think that's what I was wondering when I looked at them??
