Cast Iron No0b Buys His First, His Very Own Cast Iron!

...but I'm not at all excited about it, am I.




I had been looking over the last month in thrift stores for any previously-owned cast iron cookware, mainly a skillet and a dutch oven... but there was nothing to be found.

While perusing the camping section of the local Sports Chalet here in town I ran across some new, pre-seasoned Lodge cookware. Not knowing anything about them, their manufacturing quality claims and their finished product were impressive... I figured a safe bet for a first purchase would be this 3 qt. combo cooker consisting of a deep skillet and a another skillet as a lid.

Then I started reading some threads in this, the T&TTT Cast Iron forum and have simply been blown away! I've only scratched the surface... You folks are an incredible storehouse of cast iron experience and knowledge... I look forward to the continuing surprises you provide. I've also been reading over at camp-cook.com and will register there soon enough!

And since no thread is complete without pics, here's me stuff!

Nice looking piece. I was just looking at a griddle from that company.

Definately will, one step at a time.

I have lost count of my Lodge inventory -- pre-seasoned camp dutch ovens, their wok, grill, serving pieces, skillets and a few pieces of their enameled line.

Got a lot of it from Amazon using Free Super Saver Shipping and got two enamel pieces a couple years ago from Cabela's when they were doing free shipping before Christmas.

Lodge is terrific and they are made in Tennessee!

I've been wanting that combo cooker for a long time. I can't find one in town and I didn't want to pay for shipping. I hadn't thought about the free shipping from Amazon. I'll have to look into that. Congrats on the new piece. Have fun.

ive been looking at getting that same setup...i think i saw it at walmart for like 35 bucks...

sidenote...my mom is a freak for a certain discount store that we have over here locally...(dirt cheap----its like a closeout type outlet place---they get truckloads of stuff that other stores get rid of...some junk, sometimes you can find a good deal)...and i do go through there every now and then...well, she was in town this weekend, so we went....i found a lodge enameled pot and lid marked like 30 bucks, but then everything in the store is always 50-70% off...so, i did the math(really, i just looked at the little chart!!lol) and thought, man, i better get this...i carried it around the store, and then thought, hmm, i better check this thing out...lid was taped on, so i cut the tape, opened it up...not....the enamel coating was cracked and had a piece missing about 1 inchx2inches...so...i didnt get it...lol

This is how you use it but you will need a couple more for the black eyed peas and collard greens
