This skillet has been in the family for years. I did a bit of research and discovered it was sold by Montgomery Wards but that's all I know about it. Are these fairly common?

Sold by the "monkey" but made for them by Wagner. With the large catalog number cast in the skillet it would date to the 1924 to 30s? of so. I think later Wards iron cookware, still made by Wagner, has smaller typewriter style writing and says "Montgomery Wards" plus some other writing. That's a nice looking pan.

Years ago I bought a very nice early cylinder phonograph made by Columbia and it was made for Wards to sell and marked THORNWARD on a pretty banner transfer on the oak case.

I don't see a lot of Wards iron cookware although it's not rare. Probably more common in areas where it was heavily bought wherever that may have been.

Wow, Steve! You sure know your iron. Those dates would correspond with the time of purchase. Grandfather probably picked it up in either OK, TX or AR. Thanks for the info! :applause:
