old iron, what is it??

I was kicking thru the grass behind the house a bit this afternoon, came up with several old pieces of "stuff" a 1960 minnesota liscence plate. A vintage splitting maul head and axe head which I will put back into service making wood for the cookstove. I also found this...

Looks primitive..this neighborhood was settled in about 1884. Shame its cracked.. :(

Agree, it at least looks like a smelting pot. Any idea if there was a smithy close by that spot once upon a time?

More like a plumber's lead pot for when drains had poured lead joints. ;)

We have a winner!!! I use one about like that to melt lead for bullets.
