Teardrop Derby rules...UPDATE 3/21/10

Here are the "OFFICIAL" rules for the 2010 season of Teardrop Derby racing.

1. Must have 3 wheels only
2. single wheel must go down track first
3. can't weigh more than 16 oz. an official scale will weigh in all participants.
4. must fit inside a 4" x 8" box, we have a template to check with, same as last time.
5. no side wheels or rollers are allowed. wire whiskers or guides are however, but they must fit inside the template box without being bent to fit.
6. GRAVITY power only, if in doubt, read this rule again
7. if the racer ran in '08, the same racer can't run in '10, It's just not that hard to come up with a new one. THIS RULE NO LONGER APPLIES...

8. AS OF 3/21/10 PREVIOUS RACERS CAN BE RUN, BUT TRY TO DOCTOR THEM UP SO THEY ARE A BIT DIFFERENT. THIS IS DONE TO ENCOURAGE THOSE THAT HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE PAST TO MAYBE REWORK IT AND RUN AGAIN.

If any of you on the forum that will not be attending the IRG would like to build a racer, I'm sure we could find an alternate driver to operate it for you. All attempts will be made to get your racer up to weight and make it as competitive as possible. The track is 24' long and will have approximately a 6' starting height. It is also considerably wider than your racer, so plan accordingly. Check out the videos on U Tube over on Nanny's Niche for some action pics and ideas on what the track looks like.

You can ship them out to us and include postage to have it shipped back to you, if you want it back. Exact shipping address to be determined as well as a cut off date. Everyone has like 6 months right now to build one.

Please note that there is no rule that states it MUST look like a tear. Fun, wacky entrants are encouraged. Doug

Doug,

Can you show some examples. Remember it took me 4 yrs to build my boxkite, and the car I built in the scouts did not even make it more then halfway down the track.

Can you show pixs of examples??
or shots of the races themselves so for those who are not as gifted at building them but are willing to try got some idea.
I even went to google images and found no shots of Teardrop Derby races.

I gather parts can be found at a hobbie shop.

 show me what to do ....
is there a plan at Andrews site??
are there really only 3 T's in Tinny Travel Trailer
was the earth made round so Doug could run his tinny trailers down it.

signed a real mini teardrop trailer amiture.

Thanks, however I have a computer with low ram and dial up and it bombs when I try any videos or maps.

I will try on a wifi somewhere with my portable I'll have to drive over to Baywood where I don't have to sign anything to get on.

I was hoping for a simple picture of just one trailer for the site.
I guess we are a video world now, Guess I am getting old. Should have kept the gunports on and put up a mast to show how backward I am.

Thanks again.

Ron,
Your teardrop derby racer should really have the gunports, IMO. 8)

I know our Racer is still State side.. In safe hands of course..Is there anyone that would like to be our designated driver? Sure would love to see it race again or even remodified to qualify..

Will Roly be attending? Since his sister lives in Sweden it would be awesome to have Roly run the derby with both our flags on it and on both our behalf?

Roly kan du handla det liten husvagn derby för öss och din syster som bor i Sverige? Derby liger där I Kalifornia.. ;)

However it would be awesome to see it run again by anyone attending. If you like feel free to do so..I know our oldest son Nicholas who built it and his little 5 year old brother samuel would love to see it run. It would really be special for them.
