Don't get caught off guard and not bring the right clothing for the IRG. It's currently triple digit temps here, but up at the IRG it is considerably cooler. Be prepared. 50 degree temps and fog in the morning is not uncommon. Doug

Good Point Doug

For those of you that are not familiar with Humbolt County and environs the weather can go from <50 to over 80 back to >50 in the corse of a day. You really need two sets of clothes, cool and hot. Layers are important. Make sure you bring a "sit by the fire" coat.

Be prepared to look at a steel gray sky and say things like "I think it will burn off", "Is it starting to burn off?", "I think the clouds are starting to clear"

Accept as a given that your stuff will be "damp" in the morning as there will be condensation in the mornings.

Doug,
It is funny how different weather.com and accuweather.com is with the forecast.

With weather.com it is about 2-5 degrees cooler than where I live and accuweather has it warmer up there than here which would surprise me. Of course the temperature under the trees and in the meadow can be very different.

It is wise to be prepared for a variety of temperatures.

If the weather is anything like 2 years ago it would be perfect if you ask me.

Low clouds and fog over night, burning off by 10:am, winds slight and variable increasing in the afternoon. Same summer forecast since the last ice age...except sometimes the fog never burns off and sometimes it's hot... 8)

But NEVER hot like other parts of CA, like Sacramento or Redding - other cities with family that we are making quick visits to this trip north. There in the summer, it is generally at least in the 90s & hot means temperatures in the 100s. :sweaty: The record highs for Carlotta in the end of July is 82 degrees. I like 60s & 70s with records in the low 80s.

I just checked the forecast for Carlotta which is the nearest town to Pamplin Grove. Weather.com has highs forecast in the mid 60's for the 25th through the 29th.
Accuweather has it 86 on the 25th and then 78, 69, 70 and 73 for the following days. Of course at Pamplin Grove there can easily be a 15 degree difference between the meadow and under the trees.
