Lady Tear Droppers, drop in and say "Hello"!

This is where the gals can have their very own discussions...

Miriam, I wanted to let you know that the struts were a bear to figure out. I got it wrong the first time I installed it, so I had some holes to repair, and I had to repaint that galley wall (which I did last night). I got it right the second time, so hopefully all is well.

I bought the replacement brackets that bdosborn suggested, but I still needed to use some aluminum plates as backing on them. Hard to explain in words but here are some pics. Hopefully these will explain it better than I can.

Here is the hatch attachment, you will see the aluminum plate under the bracket. I had to use the plate here since the rib was only 3/4" wide, and the bracket would have only been screwed into 1/8" ply. The aluminum plate is screwed into the rib and the bracket is screwed into the plate:

Here is the wall attachment. Here I also used an aluminum plate, since the bolt head needed some clearance space:

Here is a shot showing the whole prop:

Here is a shot of one of the pins I purchased to help secure the prop when opened:

Hope this helps anyone wanting to install these props.
Amy

WAY TO GO AMY!! Your TD looks Fan-friggin'-tastic!! I keep looking at your design and trying to figure out exactly how you did it. I am sure it was not easy but it is definately original - and beautiful.

Marliyn - just like Amy said, DON'T LET THE MAN TAKE THE CREDIT! I can't speak personally about being proud of building mine (but if I would have it would I would have done a better job) but you gals who do build them sure have a lot to be proud of. Yes guys (for those of you peeking in), you do build some awesome Teardrops and we love the help you give us with your knowledge and know-how. But behind every good man, there's a woman with a hammer and skill saw in her hand.

Thanks Amy. Those pictures might help with my biggest issue and allow me to use what I have. Needed to find a way to secure the brackts to a secure foundation.

Do those come straight down or do they swivel some?

Your TD sure is beautiful!

Miriam, they swivel and slide open/closed on the brackets, if that makes sense. I had a fun time figuring out the placement, since I got to crawl into the galley and shut myself in.

Thanks for the kudos everyone, it feels really good to be getting close to finished.

 Wow Amy you did such a beautiful job on your tear. Great workmanship. Woman rock. You should be very proud of yourself. Super. My son said today that I'm putting too much sissy girl stuff in my tear. I told him I'm building it and if he doesn't like my teapot theme then he can stay in a tent.  All you ladies are doing a great job on your tears. :applause: :applause: Peg

I thought I was the only one who did that, crawling into the galley that is. Thank you for posting pics of the hatch supports, and you do have a beautiful tear!

Hi Pam,Everyone always thinks my husband built this or that, but it was me who made it. My husband does alot of the housework and I do all the fixing and building. My son says we are doing it backwards. I told him if it works don't complain.  So I'm building a Tomboy tear. I love teapots and teacups. I have teapot curtain material that I found last week. It looks nice. I love seeing woman building things that normally men do. Sorry guys. My son said he wants to marry a Tomboy.   He kills me. Have a good day ladies. Peg

Hey gals, I have some great news! June 8th my house gave "birth" to a bouncing baby teardrop! She is still an infant, and she has yet to "grow" her fenders (they will be put on tonight) and inside cabinets, but so far she is looking nice and healthy. ;) She goes in for her inspection this coming Wednesday.

Here are some shots of the "birth":
