well--not in the path of the hurricane, but definitely in the path of a weathermaker front that's brought nothing but driving rain for most of the last 48 hours.
Normally, a little rain wouldn't stop me from camping...but life on chemo isn't normal, and I was already pushing my luck going camping and not resting up for my first week back. So I DID go to the Tin Can Tourists rally (my very first one), but I didn't go to camp or even take the trailer. Chemo brain has kicked in and I could just tell taking the trailer wouldn't have been my brightest idea.
However--I did get to see a lot of cool vintange travel trailers. There was one teardrop there, a Yoder Toter, and I talked with the guy for awhile. Other tears had been there but left after a day because of the lousy weather. There was also a trailer there that was the candidate for 'most creative reuse of another vehicle' -- a repurposed postal delivery van. A number of Shastas and Scottys, and of course a lot fo Airstreams of various vintages. But the coolest camper was a tiny trailer manufactured by Mustard of Sweden, called a 'Yvonne.' It was from 1960, and the guy who owned it was only its second owner. Almost all of it was original. Kind of like Steve's Li'l Diner, it had two parallel benches and a table, but no back galley. There was a semi-indoor galley (wall mounted water cannister, sink, counter). But the coolest part was that it had this little section that looked like a turret and raised up about 10 inches to give about 1/3 of the camper about 6 foot of headroom. All original paint and awnings.
I know, PICS. Working on it--I have to load the pics up in Picassa and then edit them so they fit in my album.
But it was a fun day (if kinda wet)--and I did see a lot of cool trailers and meet some intersting people.
And most of all, I'm warm and dry. Heads up and hang on to everyone near the storm center.
