Carol:

I ordered the First Up 10x10 and it should be here soon. Thanks for your tips on set up and take down. I plan on taking it in the backyard and practicing over and over before I actually use it camping.

So, you do leave your canopy on when you take it down and store it for later use? Good info to have. I have some other questions maybe you could help answer.

If you set it up on asphalt/concrete, do you just use the guy lines and stakes to hold it down? Does that work well in wind? I noticed in your pics and other people's that seems to be the case, but I wanted to check. Is there a place to anchor the legs (feet) themselves, too?

Also, can both the wind and screen attachments be on the canopy at the same time? I am assuming so, but couldn't find any info that said it was possible.

My TD is arriving tomorrow and I have been playing with my camping gear all weekend.

Thanks for the welcome.

I just started leaving the canopy on the last couple of times which saves time and aggrevation when by yourself. With a little careful folding it will also still fit in the carry bag as well while still attached to the frame.
Funny you should mention about tying the whole thing down. Yes if on concrete you are left mostly to the tie down lines. Depending on where you plan to do your set up. As you can see from many people's photos many like the over the galley set up but I tend to do off to the side over a picnic table. I usually leave half of the table outside of the awning and the rest underneath for shade. I have used all combinations of tying off the tie down cords not only in the ground but around picnic tables, trees or anything which won't blow away. If along the side of your trailer you can use your trailer tongue frame or even the back bumper. I also always carry a good assortment of bungee cords which come in handy as additional securtiy. The first weekend I used it in late fall in Michigan I thought we were all going to blow away and here I was on a blacktop slab. I used all the combinations mentioned. I think only one leg actually got secured in the grass.
Don't know what your drive is and how much room you have for accessories but my best luxory item is my gravity chair. A little bulkier than the compact bag chair but really nice to recline back in an view the night sky.
I can't answer your question about both the side panels and screen at the same time as I have never used the screen sides.
Have fun.

Hope you gals here are all having a great start to your year. I haven't been on here seems like forever but still catch up on your posts. The women here are going strong.
Tonight I start a 7 week long class to hopefully change my life and lifestyle about eating, heart healthy and basically trying to get myself and this almost 50yr old body into better shape so I can enjoy camping and living life for a long time to come. Need lots of weight to come off and have a long way to go.....this is my present to myself. Better late than never.
I was showing off my Teadrop yesterday while she shivered to stay warm out in my frigid garage here in Wisconsin. We are all dreaming of warmer weather here.

Carol, I was wondering what happened to you! Welcome back...it's good to see you posting again. I wish you the best, best, best with your healthier lifestyle. I joined the YMCA one week ago and had my 1st of 6 sessions with a personal trainer last Saturday. Then I worked in the garage all day Sunday and this morning when I got out of bed, I thought someone beat me up while I was asleep. Jeez, I am sore. But, I too want to lose weight, get back in shape and get healthy. Please keep us up with your progress. I know you will do great!

Susann, Carol gave you great information on the canopy. I have a 10x10 and a 14x14. I haven't used the 14' yet but intend to put it up this weekend as practice. I too keep the canopy in place when taking it down (10x10). That way, it is easier to put up the next time. I have wind and screen sides but haven't used them. But I see them used a lot with other campers. Please take pictures of your new baby when "she" arrives. We love new baby Teardrop pictures.

Mandy:

Summer??? Don't you do spring camping in New Mexico? I love New Mexico!! I camped in a pop-up for my 50th birthday at a campground just outside Santa Fe and had a great time. I have been back to New Mexico several times since, and was there the summer of 2007. I rented a casita near Lake Abiquiu and just toured around to old and new places. My sister flew out to stay with me and that was fun.

Several years ago, a friend and I did a 10-day driving tour of New Mexico. We did more of the southwest part that time: Lake Ray Roberts, Gila, Silver City, Deming, T or C...and just had another great time.

Hi Susann :)

Yeah I sometimes go spring camping but the weather is still unpredictable up in the mountains. Otherwise I would go now.

Mandy:

So, now snow camping for you? I am not much of a cold weather fan, and have no plans to camp in really cold weather.

When I was in Santa Fe camping years ago (and it was August), I remember hearing some people complaining about the humidity being so AWFUL! I asked what it was and almost burst out laughing when they said it was around 20%. I am used to 90 degrees or more with 80% and above humidity. That is one of the things that I love about New Mexico---the low humidity!

I hope to be able to get good advice and info from you when I haul my TD out that way to camp.

Did I mention that I love New Mexico?

Well howdy Mandy Pandy. I think you just need to fly your butt over here to Florida and go camping with us soon. We could do the Rainbow Springs River float and camp out. It's a beautiful 5 hour float on the spring fed river, cold but crystal clear. We love it! There is a campground but I haven't checked it out yet. I may do so in June or July. Soooooo much fun.

I hear ya Thank the Lord we hardly have any humidity.

Well unfortunately I only have tent camped here. My favorite place here is the Jemez Mountains, I have a few pics in my album. The neat thing about the place is that the nights are very cool in the summer. I love it here too. :) There will be a teardrop gathering in Cloudcroft NM this July. I'll be going I haven't been that way for years. Well nice to meet a new friend.

Becca...OMG I love rainbow springs river. I used to do float trips there back in the early 80s when I lived in Tampa. It was always so nice and cool in those hot humid summers with the spring fed waters at a year round 72deg.
So my class is called: CHIPs Coronary Health Improvement Program. developed by Dr Hans Diehls out of Loma Linda. It apparently is a very well regarded and well known program which has helped thousands. Based on the ability to actually reverse certain medical conditions and improve others with just simple eating changes in diet and exercise. Choices most all of us can control if we just choose to. I myself even as a nurse am lazy and most often opt for the easy way of eating....something quick and often processed. Apparently many hospitals, some towns and also corporations are offering this to employees to try to improve their health and cut healthcare costs. I will always appreciate any encouragement and cheerleading.
Susann.....Where did you get that cool popup privacy shelter? Who makes it and how much does it cost. That looks way easier than the one I have with just the 3 poles. How high is the center clearance?

Carol:

The privacy shelter used to be my old fiber optic splicing tent. Several years ago, the company gave all of us the tents to carry on our trucks, but we never used them. When I retired, I asked if I could have mine because I thought it would be useful for camping. I never used it and only just remembered that I had left it in a friend's garage.

So, it was free. It is made be a company called "Weco", and are called a workstation utility shelter. I tried googling them, but couldn't find that they make them anymore.

canopy

Postby tjx » Fri Jan 16, 2009 1:09 pm

Becca,

Can I ask where you found a 14 x 14 canopy? We have a 12 x 12 with sides, but a 14 would be awesome

We like to set ours up over the hatch so if it rains one can still leave the fan on top open and running. We carry a little table that will sit 4 for a meal and folds up nicely and fit under the canopy also.

My inbox is not delivering my messages for some reason so I have to keep checking the "last post"...sorry I'm late answering.

I think you need to plan a river float with us this summer. Yep, that water is a refreshing "cold" but you get used to it after your lower half gets completely numb! I loved it and will make it an annual thing from now on. Such a beautiful float trip too. So if you decide to bring your Teardrop around this part of the State, let me know and we can camp right there at the spring.
