Susann,
Welcome back. Glad to see you had a good trip. Sorry to hear you were unable to put up the canopy in windy weather. But the good news is at least you can put it up alone in good conditions. The best I can do is a big beach umbrella.
How did the side tent work out? Inquiring minds want to know.

Barbara:

I never used the side tent on this trip.

Lake Vermillion was so windy, I didn't mess with it. There was a bathroom across from me and I just changed clothes in there.

Custer State Park was so wet that I just used my First Up and the sidewalls as a changing room. I just didn't want to deal with anymore wet stuff to pack up.

And, at the other 2 campgrounds on my way home, I was pretty much alone and secluded with no one behind me or next to me on either side, so I
pretty much just changed clothes behind my teardrop. :o

I am going camping again in a few weeks with some friends and I do plan on using it there, so I will let you know then.

I was at Tractor supply yesterday and was looking at the umbrella for a tractor - there wasn't a price on it and the picture wasn't really clear on how it attaches but I think those John Deere yellow umbrellas must hold up pretty well - next time I'm in the market for one, I will check it out. They are bright yellow and can tilt and are waterproof and I guess about 6-8 feet across.

martha24 wrote:Hello to all,
Another quick update. I haven't had any time for computers of late.
Most all of my time is spent working on the dress. A great deal has been done on it, but still a ton of finishing to do.
My daughter & finance are coming down for a quick weekend visit and the dress is ready for another fitting. Hopefully just nothing more than a little tweaking is needed. Even with making a muslin, different fabrics act differently. The zipper is basted in and the 3 layers, dress, inner lining & lining are all basted together. I'm planning on pinning the hem this time. Also made a bow out of inexpensive organza to make sure it is the right size and all before I make it out of the good organza. My daughter bought some beautiful trim in San Francisco (Britex, a 3 floor fabric store) for the empire seam and I have to figure out exactly where that is to go. For my daughter details are very important. I still have a bunch of covered buttons to make to.
Right now the dress is hiding in my closet, since her husband to be can't see it.
Anyway here's a progress pic to give you an idea of what the dress is looking like. Wedding dresses & teardrops have something in common, the finishing details take a ton of time.

:applause:  Martha it just gets more beautiful. Can't wait for the wedding and all the details.

Well, Mom and I survived our cross country jaunt. Next time we will take more time. Seems the drive gets longer every time. We traveled to Gladehill VA to see my Uncles and Aunt. From there we went to Manassas VA to enjoy my granddaughter's graduation from High School. Had a great time. . . but didn't have time to do the tourist thing. . . Didn't get a lot of pictures.

Boy I sure missed this place. :)

hi everyone. Martha that dress is beautiful. I am not a seamstress. dont enjoy it so I cant do it. I just dont have the patience for it. I am making a medeival costume and that is more than enough for me.
Kenny and I are leaving tonight to host the 2nd annual Jefferson State Fathers Day gathering. We will be very close to the Oregon Caves. Very neat spot. Sure wish all of you could be there.
I will post pictures next week. I think we are close to 20 tears being there.

I still like the idea of us girls having a get together. it would be so fun to meet everyone.

Time has passed quickly and my daughter's wedding was last Sat. I got the dress finished a week before the wedding. I was very pleased on how it turned out and my daughter was a beautiful bride. I also made a flower girl dress for a 12 month old. I forgot to take a picture of the dress on the hanger, but so far I have a couple of the dress on the little one.
The outer part of the wedding dress is Shantung silk with various under layers for extra body, boning, petticoats and lining. The bow in the back is made of silk organza and the buttons are covered with the Shantung and organza. The whole thing was a lot of work, but seeing my daughter in it especially with David walking her down the aisle made it all worth while.

flower girl, she walked part way down the aisle and was carried the rest by the ring bearer. :) This dress was all made of left over fabric used in wedding dress except pink silk ribbon. The main part of dress is made of cotton/silk batiste with silk organza over skirt, some left over tulle from veil for fullness and silk lining in skirt area with ruffle at bottom for fullness as well.

Martha, that came out just beautiful! And your daughter made a breathtaking bride. I know she must have been the proudest bride to walk the aisle with a masterpiece gown made by her mama. So, so beautiful! :clapping hands:
