Hello to all,
Eunice & Shelly, I'm looking forward to seeing you both at IRG3.
Last summer my daughter got married. Just before Christmas they bought a little (1000 sq. foot) house built in the 1940's in Sacramento.
The Monday before Christmas everything was finalized and they got the keys. It was a mad rush to get bedrooms & living room painted before moving furniture in and David was working on bathroom & replacing kitchen faucet etc and getting them moved out before year end.
The house was a short sale (the original offer was made in Aug.) and though the bones are good it needed and needs work. I figure in the last 5 months we have been up there for almost 2 months in increments of 2 weeks to 10 days at a time. So we have been doing a lot of back and forth with a 6 hour drive between our house and their house.

They don't have much money or time and we could help them. Both of them helped as much as they could too.
It is a long list of projects that we have worked on and some of them still need some finishing. I've done more painting than I ever hope to again.

But it is feeling much more like a home now. Needless to say I haven't been getting much done at my own home. At the moment I don't have another trip planned until beginning of July before IRG, as it will only add a 100 miles going via Sacramento. Though we may do a short trip in June depending......
Here is a link to some photos, set up as before & after. One of the biggest differences was the week when David's two brothers came up and did the 2 arches. All the before photos were taken before the house actually closed so here & there is still some of the owner's things. It gives you a general idea of what we have been up to. I made the living room curtains. We found a place to get fabric really cheap which saved a lot of money. Where the stove was we are redoing, using the facing part & doors from the two tall upper cabinets to make a pantry. The microwave is sitting on one of them now. That was a very strange cabinet on the wall by itself. Also it is fortunate that they have been able to match the cabinets another owner put in. They found them at Home Depot. Also the granite used was a common one and the small breakfast nook was able to be reused for one counter top too. Also if you take note in the photos the location of the door between kitchen (back wall) and laundry has been moved a little and a pocket door was added. What a difference now if the washing machine or dryer are going and door is closed. I didn't included pictures of the bedrooms as the only thing really done in those rooms was painting & molding.
