Lady Tear Droppers, drop in and say "Hello"!

This is where the gals can have their very own discussions...

Congrats on the build progress, Becky! I'm not doing too much on mine over the winter, although I'm just customizing, not building from scratch. I do have a little sewing I need to do as soon as figure out what I want.
I did take the cover off of it yesterday to check for moisture problems- thankfully everything was bone dry. Even though I have a cover, it is generally pretty damp here, so I wasn't sure what would happen.
I also had a chance to get a few pictures, which I will be getting into my album at some point later today.

Hey Becca-your my Valentine birthday sister!

Becky, isn't it fun to collect the goodies that will eventually make your Tear complete! When I bought my Teardrop I had a blast fixing her up. It didn't have galley cabinets and I am NOT a carpenter so I got some Sterlite drawers from Wal Mart and put them under the galley counter. They fit like they were made for it. And, I painted the clear drawer faces with white plastic paint so you couldn't see all the junk I had. I really liked them. It also didn't have cabinets inside but it had a shelf the width of the Tear. Some friends of mine worked for a cabinet company and made me 2 cabinets as a "Camper Warming" gift. Very sweet gesture. I finally sold my Tear and bought a Scotty. I throughly enjoy standing up now! But, I do miss my Teardrop.

Maureen, glad to know I've got a birthday sista' on here! Pretty darn cool! Everytime I have to show my drivers license for something, someone always makes a "oh, your a Valentine's baby!" comment. True story - a year ago I was in Publix Supermarket in the checkout line. The lady in front of me handed the checker her license, the checker said, "Your birthday is Valentine's Day...so is mine". I immediately took out my license and said, so is mine! There were 3 of us standing there with the same birthday!

Becca & Maureen,
I hope you get TWO presents!!

I love making something "my own". To me that is the main benefit of either building or buying something older that needs work. If I bought something brand new I probably wouldn't want to start modifying it, so I would just "live with" whatever it came with, even if it didn't suit me perfectly. But when something is already in need of "freshening up" it's easy and fun to change it to make it exactly what you want. Great creative outlet.
Life is sooooo good.........

I am just posting to say "Hello." I have been spending a lot of time reading all the old posts on this site, especially the Lady Teardroppers. We are doing some remodeling inside our house and in between painting sessions, I am sewing new pillow cases and curtains for my tear. I got some fun Route 66 fabric from my daughter who bought it for their Airstream and changed her mind. That inspired me to sew. I also want to mount a new bigger box on the platform in front and some shelves inside. I can hardly wait for spring. I miss camping and am planning a solo trip to Illinois and Mississippi to see relatives and friends in early April.

Happy New Year to you all!

Anyone have any advice on my upcoming solo trip? I read a lot on this forum about solo camping and I plan to follow much of the advice, such as getting bear spray. Maybe I should put this in a new thread, or an old one on solo camping???

Hi Jane:

I think you should keep bear spray in your camper at all times. And, I'd carry it with me while traveling too. From what I've heard, it's a much better defense weapon than normal pepper spray. That and a lot of common sense will hopefully keep you safe on your trip.

I don't have any big camping plans for this year, just casual campouts here and there. We haven't had a winter so I should be out camping now, enjoying this beautiful Florida weather.

Be sure and keep a journal of your travels and take lots and LOTS of pictures to share with us. We love to 'live' through everyone else's camping adventures!

Thanks, Cajun Lady. I will try to get the bear spray ordered soon. I need to finalize my plans as I am planning to go in about 6 weeks. The biggest things I have to do are sorting through my camping stuff to pare it down from what I take on trips close by and to get a spare wheel and tire for the trailer. I have to do some maintenance on the wood trim...marine varnish....but that can wait a while if necessary.

You might get a good battery powered, weather radio. You will be entering the Southern part of your trip during our bad season. :frightened: Not sure I would spray bear spray in my trailer while I am in it. Alarms are available and a good smallish, noisy dog would be my choice. I also have no problem carrying a gun.

Now that I said that, my mom and I traipsed across to VA 4 times with not even the slightest problem. With so many locals doing concealed carry I feel if I duck I am probably good. :R  8)

Miriam....good advice on the pepper spray. That would be pretty stupid! Weather radio, I think I have. I'll think of you when I go through Missouri.

If all you need is something to make you feel safe from two legged critters while inside your camper, simply carry a can of wasp spray and keep it near your bed. Wasp spray will shoot 20-25 feet and blind a being long enough for you to either get away or bang him over the head, etc, with a pan or whatever. NOTE: Wasp spray must be washed from eyes as soon as possible or it may permanently blind a person, dog or other being; but, it is considered reasonably safe to use and is fairly inexpensive.

Thanks for the advice on the weather radio. I will add it to my list of "must haves".

Just curious... How many teardrop owners camp with kids? We have three children of our own who love camping, hiking, and fishing with us.

My grown up daughter and her 9 and 15 year old boys usually come along with their tent.

I love to camp with my ex's first ex and "my" step-kids and step-grandkids. We live too far apart to do it very often. :(

Sharon, that's definately 'keeping it in the family'! I too love camping with my kids. My youngest son and his wife have used my Scotty to camp over New Year's with their now one year old baby girl. They are tent campers but only because they don't have a hard side yet. We totally enjoy our campouts. I taught my son how to cook in cast iron and he is very good now (and a very good cook period). When we camp, it's like all the amenities of home are with us. Jamie (daughter n law) packs like a pro and sets up a beautiful campsite.

So, yes, I love camping with my kids.
