Ready to add our skin

Postby daveleb55 » Mon Dec 03, 2007 9:25 pm

Yesterday we went out shopping for some power tools to help with applying the skin. Purchased a compresser and a brad nailer to attach the luan to the rafters. On a test scrap of wood, we found the brad went clear through the luan. Has anyone had similar experiances or did we buy the wrong nailer. Any Suggestions? Would a staple nailer been better?

:snowstorm: It's getting cold and we need to finish the tear in a few weeks to head out to Death Valley.

Kathleen we have had folks with the same problem. One of the guys said they put another piece of ply in front to keep it from going through. You might try different thicknesses.

Kathleen,

You can also try turning down the air pressure. I had to crank down my pressure to keep it from blasting the brads through the panelling.

It worked!!!

Auntie M saves the day!!!
Putting a shim under it worked perfectly!

I tried turning the pressure down, but below about 55 pounds it quits firing. Other than that it had no effect.

Hello People,

How is everyone doing? I'm messing around with diffrent designs and still can decide on what I want. I'm still here wishing that the teardrop fairy would send me a trailer frame. Well now for the question of the day. Do you have cabinets in the sleeping area? If you do, what do you put in them.

Just curious

OOOH, OOOH, I know the answer to this one!! 8)

Yes and clothes mostly, and spare blankets, etc. We also take one of our laptops along to watch DVDs and get on the internet if there is wireless at the campground.

Mandy, I have 'under cot' boxes...the cot is about 8 inches off the floor, and I've got some drawers on wheels that slide under.

Right now, over winter, the boxes are holding tools and a small cedar one has the curtains in it.
In the summer, I used them to hold spare (dry) clothes, towels, the small one holds shoes, and some miscellaneous stuff I didn't want rolling around on the floor.

I also have one of those folding nylon 'trunk organizers' that sets on the floor next to the cot, into which I stow a lot of stuff while I'm moving the trailer--the odds and ends and loose things like trashbasket, bucket, etc., that would roll around while the trailer was on the road. When it's empty it folds down flat and slides under the cot.

:applause: Trunk organizer sounds like a great idea. I have most of my storage under the bed and plastic boxes to keep the clothing separated and clean. The cabinets go through the galley so the coffee pot and junk food are accessible.

Mandy,
I opted for kitchen cabinets in the galley so in the cabin I used the top of those cabinets for a shelf. At least my pic shows you can still have a lot of space to hang/store things even without cabinets in the cabin so anything you might add would be a bonus.

Here's my simple cabin set up. A before and after look.

I even used some left over oak from the side walls to create corner shelves. The shelves rest on some framing and even pop out(I used magnets for kitchen cabinet doors).

I found all the shelves and hooks at Ikea in the bathroom section there..........great price and it's maple too. Gave a nice clean look to the cabin wall. That's also a black nylon shoe box from Ikea......It holds lots of little things too so I have one on each side.

Have fun planning.......................

Hi all,

Here's a little update on me and my surgery. I am walking. It's not graceful and I can't do much more than go straight ahead but I'm on my own power for the first time in two months.

I'm not allowed to squat(not sure I spelled that right) and my left knee is strained from all the extra work it's been doing.

What's really odd, is I have to think and concentrate on walking straight. I've been limping and waddling for the better part of 10 months, so it is hard to not walk that way now. My right calf is telling me I'm torturing it but it doesn't have a clue what's ahead for it. :)

The upside is I can walk straight and without waddling, this is a huge thing to me. I don't feel like I'm 90 anymore, just close to 70. Another 20 years and I'll be where I belong.

Now on another note: Who's getting what for Christmas for their t or ttt?
I got paint and a new mattress. The first one we loved so much it is in the house. 8)

Mandy our cupboard has blankets, towels, pj's and a box of games. There is a shelpf under the cupboards that holds dvd player, magazines and stuff.

Lynn so glad that you are doing better. walking a straight line is a good thing!

Hi Mandy:
I have only one cabinet (for now) in my sleeping area but I also have 14" deep by 20" high by 5' long open storage area behind the "headboard" area. I put my tablecloths, candles (battery operated ones), and my dressing room curtain, card games and my toiletry bag in my cabinet. The cabinet has a shelf in the middle so I can fit quite a bit of stuff in it. I now want smaller cabinets built above my head-sleeping area close to the ceiling. They will have to have sliding doors because I have track lighting up there too.

Lynn:
Glad to hear you are back on your feet once again. Don't push it - you don't want scar tissue to deal with later. Take it easy and get well!

Look what I just purchased on eBay. They'll go well with our theme for the Inkwell.

Paul & I are not buying anything for each other for Christmas, except our stockings. Cash we would have spent on each other is going into the trailer.

What have you purchased for your trailer for Christmas?
