I've never been here before, but I like what you have done with the place. It's always a first read when I'm catching up with the forum. Please forgive the intrusion.

Becca,
That hinge leak fix looks like a winner

Hey there gals. Looks like a great fix there Becca, and I am admiring the dishwashing table. I may have to make one of those myself (after the tear is done).

My world lately has been sanding, sanding and more sanding. I really am not a fan of sanding. I epoxied the roof and then had to sand that smooth, then I primed it and had to sand that as well. Now it is finally ready for the three coats of marine paint I plan to put on.

I also skinned the lid for the tongue box and finished the wiring in the hatch. I am heading off on a family vacation (Disney cruise with my neices) and will miss working on the trailer the next two weekends. Hopefully I'll be having too much fun with my neices to think about eveything I have left to do on the tear to get it camp ready by June.

When I get back I'll skin the inside of the hatch, epoxy it, prime it and get it ready to paint along with the roof of the tear. After the painting is done, I'll be putting anywhere from 3-5 coats of marine varnish on the sides. I am hoping to get all of this done in April, so I can pull the tear out of the garage and get the shop back. I need to get to the tablesaw to finish up the face frames for the cabinets.

I am sure I will be doing a ton of work on it every chance I get in order to get it done. :?

Hope everyone is doing well, and I'll catch up with everyone when I get back home on the 30th.

paint on those plastic drawers

Postby fireaunt » Wed Mar 19, 2008 2:43 am

Cajun Lady, I really like all your personalized features. You inspire me to do my little fixes. I looked at your album and wondered if you used spray paint on those plastic drawer units in the galley- I like how it gives such a clean look rather than the semi-clear. Do they stay closed when traveling?

The shelf inside my TD gave me clastraphobia plus some bruised shinns. I took the handy jigsaw to it and cut it back about 8inches. Makes a world of difference. I think I can recycle the cut piece for a shelf.

To get rid of the masses of bedding (3 sleeping bags and comforter) I bought a twin size 4" foam bed from Walmart - it's almost perfect. I have 3" on either side for covers to fall. I'm one of those people that has to stick a foot out of the covers so I think it will great.

I need to seal around the back wall where I think morning dew is getting in. Then I am going to floor with some sticky back tiles that look like parquet. I hope I like it but then it is covered up. I thought it would help with the damp feeling the plywood has.

I want to build a headboard/ac cover-up with some storage. I got some luan and 1 x 2 's to see what I can devise.

My kids had a play teepee so I'm thinking of adding some extension legs and some sort of waterproof cover (maybe fabric/oilcloth) to make it into a peetee for me. I'll take pics - success or fail.

Okay, so last night I ordered my mattress from Knox Foam! I am sooooo excited about getting the bed! I wanted to order it before the 20% off deal ended. Now, when I get back from vacation, I will be looking forward to seeing my lovely teardrop trailer mattress!

Now to order some miscellaneous hatch hardware (draw latches, locking t-handle, and props). :woohoo: I am so excited that things are coming together so quickly now! I can't wait to go camping!! :running man:

Thanks Aunti M for the help with the clock and thanks for all the sweet compliments on my roof and table (Steve, Amy, Sam, Aunti M, Fireaunt).

Stevie, we like when you guys join in on our 'ladies talk'. ;)

Sam - we know you are snowbound so don't beat yourself up for not working on your cute Turtle. Once you can get that garage door un-frozen, you can pull that baby out and git to workin'. We'll be rootin' for you.

Amy, I also got my mattress from Knox Foam. It is more comfortable than my own bedroom mattress. When it arrives, open it carefully because it comes to life when you take that shrink wrap off. I went the cheap way and didn't order a cover with it but I picked one up at Wal-Mart and it works. If you Tear turns out anything like your home remodeling, it is going to be beautiful! You are very handy with tools. You are not allowed to look at my dishwashing table in person - it would look like a serious amateur did it (and they did).

Fireaunt, thanks for looking at my "stuff". Yes I did use spray paint on the plastic drawers. It is spray paint for plastic that I got at Home Depot. It comes in different colors too. I was using bungee cords to make sure the drawers stayed closed during travel and they sometimes do open a little but I am now using 2 poles that you use for shower curtains (tension rods) and put them across the front of the drawers and that works great. They are easy to store after and I can use them to hang close in the back of my Escape while camping. Oh, glad to know there are others out there that have to stick a foot out of the covers.

I think there must be a foot sticking gene - haha- I use it for temperature regulation, I guess. My mother does it too! Welcome to the club!
I also sit in a chair and lift my heels up with the pressure on my toes - like having high heels on - go figure. My sis does it too - drive the hus crazy.

Hi Ladies! I haven't posted in a while...been busy getting my house ready to sell. Argh. :? So tired of moving stuff around and cleaning. I had the carpets replaced and refinished the hardwood floors. But...it's ready to go now. On the market tomorrow!

But, this is for teardrops, not houses...Pam and I are going camping this weekend (snow or not!) and I have some work to do. The house my be clean, but the garage is far from it! I'm redoing the galley...need to put in a counter, a drawer slide for the cooler and some shelves up top. Can I do that by Friday? We'll see. I'll keep you posted!

I'm so glad teardrop season is almost here! Yay! :campfire: :wine:

Becca,
You'll never guess how I solved any potential leaks with my hurricane hinge: the rope chalk that you can use for your windows.

When all was said and done with my td build my hinge did not extend out like suggested because of the thickness of the trim. This stuff works great and lasted my whole first season of use. Just balled a tiny piece up for both sides and stuck it in the end of the hinge.

It opens and closes fine and I just push it back into place when I'm on the road in case it rains. It's actually pretty funny to think it's all I needed. I'll have to take a pic of it.

Mandy,
If all goes well I'm starting another td, this time for my sister and her two little boys. It will be very simple but something they'll enjoy. Keep your fingers crossed............as nothing is as simple as it seems.

take care ladies.......

Shelly, I was wondering how your home prep was going. Moving is not fun and never really easy. We have been fortunate each time we moved - it was always paid for and provided by the company. This is the first time we have lived this long anywhere, almost 13 years and I still don't like it here. I miss Louisiana and I really miss Nevada. But, he has a wonderful position with Jacobs Engineering so, here I stay.

Barb, you lucked out with that easy fix. The problem with my hinge is that it leaked in several places but not on the ends. The test of my skills will be tomorrow...supposed to rain like the devil and I left it uncovered. :worship: Yes, please show me your problem solver. I really, really hope this takes care of mine. Now to fix the hatch.

Hi Cajun Lady - yep--Maggie Mae is about 8 and is a cute Boston Terrier - however at the last campout - my first as a teardropper - I was afraid it might be my last-- Maggie - AKA Kujo - is fear aggressive and snaps if you try to pet her. If you just ignore her she is fine - just don't touch her.

My neighbor kept giving her treats and after 2 years, Maggie will give kisses and just loves her. I don't know anyone else patient enough to succeed. Hmmm, I guess if she draws blood you might be a patient. My mother didn't socialize Maggie. Four years ago I retired and took Maggie from my mom. We have come a long way but still have a long way to go.

ps - Maggie's teardrop name is "I_Byte".

Thanks for noticing, what kind of Maggie do you have?

Well, I broke the garage door loose and pulled the Turtle out for Del to see. (Got stuck in the driveway in the process). Now I have the fever. I have the day off tomorrow and it's supposed to be 35 degrees, so I think I'll spend at least part of the day assessing and cleaning up. One of the fellas in my carving class started a turtle carving that I may have to plagiarize shamelessly. I have to find a utilitarian use for it, first, though.

Ladies, keep on apostin'. You keep me interested and motivated.
