Hey the caboose looks great in that setting. Glad to see that you are recovering.

I didn't realize that the caboose was so close to the tractor barn. Love the new paint job on your caboose, bob. She's really looking nice.

Tractor Supply and Family Farm and Home carry them also.
Glad to hear your wiring issue didn't cause anything more than a few bulbs.

Finally found sliding door track at rural king. Tracks and rollers and hangers and stops etc etc $187.00. It get $$$$ real quick but it's her barn not mine.
I went 1/2 on the electric service with her and final cost was about $1400.00 ($700.00 each) Image

The reason the Caboose was placed that close to the barn was for security. Also, since the Caboose pLugs in, it had to be within cord reach.

I was on ebay this morning looking for antique coat hooks for an old timey look. Out of the blue it came to me.......Image

Yep walk a little track for exercise and find a few good spikes and select and stain an interesting board and a coat rack is born. Should look very railroad'esk

what do you think ??? Image

Most excellent!

You get extra points if the wood smells like an old railroad tie... Ahhh, that tar/oil/creosote smell... :applause:

Pulled up to an abandon set of tracks out in the boonies and walked about 25 steps. I took the toe of my boot and kicked at a few spikes. Some wiggled and I reached down and pulled them out with 2 fingers. As the section of track went less than 60 feet I figured no one would really care so I gathered about 8 spikes to make the coat rack.

On another note I decided to install knife switches for the 12 volt led ceiling lights. They will have old school look that should match railroad equipment. As only one side of the 12 volt path is exposed there will be no hazard and it helps to identify the 12 volt DC vs the 120 volt AC switches

After a week end of snow and a weekend of rainy and cold as hell we finally got a break and got the header up for the tractor barn doors.

Hauling 24 foot long lumber was a bit of a head scratcher for a minute or two, then I had an idea........

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=64887&p=1152787#p1152787

I was so happy after 3 tries and beating the hell out of the header it and out, in an out, and in and out, I finally got it positioned correctly.

It is now bolted into position with five 8" carriage bolts and I was so relieved and happy I forgot to take an after picture.

zoning

Here we have Purdue university building a tiny house for the homeless. A great and noble deed.

http://www.jconline.com/story/news/coll ... /25079069/

I couldn't stand it I had to ask if my tiny home would now be allowed in Tippecanoe county since Purdue's seemed to be.

Here was my answer.

Mr. Henry,

The tiny house that the Purdue students built is being done on Purdue owned land. As such, state owned land is not subject to local zoning or subdivision regulations. I checked with Lafayette, West Lafayette and the County Building Commissioner. Lafayette told me that they have Housing Standards in the City Code that include Occupancy Limitations, Section 13.03.010, Section 404. This lists minimum room sizes as well as required bedroom square footage per occupant. Based on these standards, the City could not approve a tiny house to be built within the city limits. A person in the City Engineer’s office talked to the student in the article and he was told the project could not be allowed within Lafayette.

West Lafayette had not heard anything about this, but they also agree that it would likely not be allowed within West Lafayette. According to the County Building Commissioner, Mike Wolf, the state has building code regulations that would also most likely prevent a tiny home from meeting state code. I think that this would have to be addressed before any locality in Indiana could permit a tiny house.

I hope this answers your question.

I guess the state doesn't trump the county after all. But it is nice to know I can park my trailer on state land. There is a tiny spit next to my property in Frankfort that bumps up next to mine,
maybe I could lease it since "state owned land is not subject to local zoning or subdivision regulations"

Yep ! Back to work full time.

Climbing ladders on the weekend and wrestling huge boards to get the tractor barn weathered in before winter really sets in.

I am in awe of what was done with so little of an interruption to my life.

It could have easily gone all wrong.

I just got lucky and caught it just in time.

Bob,

Here's another tiny home owner dealing with the same issues, in Massachusetts...
