Guess I'm a Thermos collector now..

I think I got a good deal on my Craigslist purchase today when I bought this stove and lantern for $25.

The lantern is a 220 F dating from June of '64

And I just figured out that the stove is a Thermos 8491, don't know how to find a date on that yet.

Both had fuel and lit right off with no tinkering needed! I haven't really figured the Thermos controls yet but both burners did light. It has 2 knobs, one facing the operator and one facing the left side. I opened them both about 2 turns and it went. It burns so clean I may have to wait until after dark to really get a feel for how they work.
Oddly enough the first lantern I ever acquired was a cute lil blue Thermos at the "free to a good home" section of our landfill. I need to find some parts for that one...

Those Thermos and predecessor AGMs are pretty good burners. The wings on yours looks like they would be easy to set up. That was a big problem with most of the AGMs and later Thermos stoves.

Open the valve to the left about 2, or 3 or 4 turns ( this is the air valve much like the little lever on the Coleman stoves ) Then crank on the valve facing you with a lit match at the burner. After ab out a minute close the air valve and pump it back up.

Looks like the burners lift up with cooking grate. Is that correct? I have a stove here someplace with a case that appears the same on the outside.

There does not seem to have ever been any date stamps on AGM/Thermos stoves. best way to date is Terry March site.

Thanks! I'll give your tips a try, and yes the burners do lift with the grate. I believe the stove is a 64, as is the lantern.

Mine needs a grate. Strange the way your life up. I have not tryed to light mine up yet.
