John...the rust was pretty bad on the bottom box, it was pitted. I glass beaded that along with the tank and the cast iron mixing body with the burners. I used stripper on the lid and the flaps. Doug

Is glass beading better than sandblasting ?

Glass beading is the same treatment, but the media is fine glass beads not sand. Sand is pretty aggressive and will eat up the metal. If it were me, I'd only use stripper on any stamped identification or logos on a fount. You don't want to diminish any of the stamping with any blasting treatment, short of soda...it's the finest and gives the smoothest surface from blasting. Doug
