3 great vintage camping pieces

Postby doug hodder » Fri Sep 04, 2009 9:17 pm

I've said it before and I'll say it again....I've got the best customers in the world! I was talking to Alice the other day mentioning that I was collecting vintage camping stuff. She and I talk boats and trailers regularly they have a very large live aboard yacht down in the Delta. Today she came by with these 3 wonderful pieces. She had gotten them for their vintage Airstream, but they have sold it and are downsizing on a bunch of stuff.

The Skotch line of products was designed and copyrighted in 1952 by Petra Cabot, and manufactured by Hamilton Metal products in Ohio through the 50's. On the far right is a small cooler/ ice bucket, center is a picnic basket and on the far left is the Skotch grill. It has an air jacket surrounding the charcoal hopper. None have been used, and have only minor dings and some scratches from 50+ years of sitting around. Pretty cool stuff I think....Alice got a store credit in her account. Thanks Alice! Doug

Thanks for the memory

Postby Carter » Sat Sep 05, 2009 5:09 am

Thanks for the memory Doug, We had a set of that when I was a kid in the 50's. Dad worked as a construction supervisor for a local utility company. As was the custom then, at Christmas all sorts of graft would show up at the house from the contractors. Hams, turkeys, fruitcakes, bottles of liquor, and sometimes things like a plaid picnic set. If I looked around Mom's basement I might be able to find a piece. The other day I found a little 8' tape measure with the name of an underground contractor that has probably been out of business for 4 decades. Perfect for building a Benroy.

I need a new Avatar. I'd put my dog up there but she doesn't look much like me. She's the skinny one.
