Wrenching on 200a

Postby campmaster-k » Sun Oct 09, 2011 7:03 pm

Ok so I got two of the 200a cleaned and pumping. both hold pressure. They both hiss when you open the valve but no gas. Pickup tube must be blocked Im guessing. How do you fix it?

So...you've got gas and pressure in the tank and it doesn't blow ANY fuel out the top of where the generator attaches? Remove the generator and check. If you got fuel there and not out the top of the gennie...it's a plugged gennie. Make sure that someone didn't take it apart and put it together wrong. I've found that on a couple of them....the gennie rod wasn't attached to the eccentric block. Remove the cage when removing the generator on 242's and 200's, I've seen a bunch of them that had bent generator tubes.

If no fuel when you pull the gennie...take it apart down to the whole assembly attached to the tank and clean it. You might get it to run for a bit...but if there's crud in there...chances are it will fight you in the future. Do it now...save on the headache. Just what I've learned. Doug

Doug, There is gas but only as first then is fizzles out. All three are the same. A little gas and then just air. If I shake the unit it produces a little more gas and then just air. Please tell me its a simple fix. Cause all three got it. I know you told me no crying but --

All upper parts clear and generators working.

Dump the fuel out with a paper towel in the funnel so you can see just how much crud is in the font. If there is some...tear it down to the font, may need a BB treatment....for me...I clamp the font in a woodworking vice with a lot of foam rubber padding so it won't slip, you may have to cook up what works for you...Don't overtighten it and distort or bend the sides on the font...grab it at the base...then use a wrench to remove the valve body from the font. Don't hammer stuff...steady pressure works best to break things loose from the font. Once removed....you can do all the cleaning it is going to need....I just do it from the get go...at least then I know what I have and don't have to fight it over time, unless it's an absolute cream puff. Now All I have to do is keep from burning my house down. Rags all soaked with fuel and MEK. Fire and lanterns all over the place. Oil . The other night i was using a bunch of oil based caulk on my tear and left all the thinner rags in a pile in my garage. No fire but it could have been bad.

The irony is I am the guy who tells people to be careful about that stuff!

Spontaneous combustion - I have seen it with my own eyes.

For anybody who cares. I took the Lantern apart, which is real easy on the 200a. I took the main valve assembly off the fount. The pickup tube and related parts are interesting and extremely small. There was a crust of gas deposits and all kind of lump and bumps. There was also a nest of spiders in the air tube way deep in. After all was cleaned and replaced it had a three point take off and burned brightly. My 200a is reborn this day October 10, 2011.

That would work good. I have plenty of land to dispose of most any amount of old pressure gas appliances.
