I usually run interference for the women. They come in...I talk to the guys about fishing, camping, hot rods, politics etc....while their wives shop. I don't even announce the total bill, just point to the total on the tower, so he doesn't see it. I've got one guy that we talk about epoxy uses...he brings me beer can stoves and we talk fishing.
It's cool to have some regulars that you get to know and can ask about their projects. My favorite is the old lady that does Coleman stuff....she wouldn't part with her Christmas lantern however....she brings in stuff to show me. She just came in one day and said...."I hear you do Coleman stuff" Doug

Look on the brightside Kirk and Doug, when people find out I work for a cabinet company all I get is " So I'm redoing (insert what ever) so what kind of deal can you get me?" 
So I always reply "well if I give you a deal, then I'll be out of a job so are you going to let me, the wife and the 2 mutts move in with you?" 
After that they don't ask me again
