Wards Prentiss Wabers Renovation

The other day I cleaned up another one of my nonworking lanterns. This is a 1934-35 Montgomery Wards P47W.

Tonight I lit her up and she hung out on the front porch. Lots of light for such a little lantern!

Wow!! Nice! And bright!!

I am always amazed at how these lanterns and stoves are still working and better than what is made now..They just don't make stuff like they used to, and sometimes the old technology is still best.

That said, I got 2 Coleman LED lanterns for Christmas on Saturday (I bet you didn't know Christmas was last Saturday!!)...I only have 3 D cell batteries, so I haven't lit them yet. I'm hoping they are pretty bright...190 and 200 lumens, the boxes say...but how does that compare to the old white gas lanterns??

At least my new LED ones will be safe to 'burn' in the Grasshopper...and over my head in the galley (just don't need to catch the hair on fire, thank you!)

How many lanterns do you have, Lee??

D'oh !!! I never thought of that. I did some work on my house and never got around to rewiring for the porch light this summer! Now with Christmas drawing near it is too cold to be out doing that and we are having Christmas at our house !!

I guess the 200A will be called into action on Christmas Eve !!!
