KampKook Model 44

Postby thralldad » Sun May 13, 2012 9:12 am

Hi guys and gals!

First post here. I picked up a KK Model 44 at an antique mall. It's missing the tank and I found out the burner is cracked.

I am going to replace the burner with modern guts running bottled gas.
I'l having trouble matching the paint, what does everyone use?

Thanks!

If you are looking to do a rattle can paint job...find the best spot on the stove that may still have paint on it...polish it up a bit to give you a better idea on what it actually looked like. Find a store with a wide spray paint line. If you want to spray it with a gun...you can get the color matched from a book at the auto paint store. It's supposed to be sort of a brownish olive green which is a tough color to find in a gloss. Since you are missing parts and are going to Frankenstove it, I wouldn't sweat it. Do it how you see fit. A Coleman 425 would be the most likely burner assembly to fit the box, however, that has a front mount fuel tank so a hole would need to be made to use that burner. See Model 44 below for color. I can't find the camera but I'll post as soon as I do. This thing was totally rusty and after a ton of elbow grease, WD-40 and 0000 steel wool I discovered some of the original color on the sides. The insides aren't too bad. I'm on my third spray can color and the closest I've found is Krylon Oregano satin. The second color ended up like Kermit green!
