What to do?

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

What to do?

Postby Joamon » Tue May 15, 2012 6:18 pm

I bought these stoves a while back and haven't shown them to anyone as of yet. I hit a sale of a local hoarder and found some treasures. I was really excited when I saw these because these aren't the kind of things you see in the wild. I have seen the coleman version before, but AGM ? They are really pretty clean. So I rush home and try to fire them up. Could not wait. I put fuel in it and next thing you know there is a puddle of fuel!  I forgot about the AGM curse. Hadn"t even noticed all the slits on the side!
:o

You can just make out one of the slits on the right side of the label in this picture.

So now I am left wondering what to do with these?

Should I just use them as display pieces?

Or make some kind of frankin-stove?

Or maybe sell them?

What do you think?

Thanks Keith

What is causing the "slit" rust, or? they can be repaired as you do with a gas tank.

Are both fractured? If not...rob parts to make one good stove. Some lanterns and military stoves from some manufacturers can get fatigue cracks in their fonts. Doug

AGM tanks often have the slits from whatever (pick one) 1. poor desighn 2. bad metal 3.fatigue 4. or who knows.
But it seems to render lanterns and stoves useless.
I have an early AGM lantern that seems to have been before the curse.
The tanks on these stoves have multiple splits and there is no way to safely repair them.

The 2 and 3 burner campstoves don't have the problems like the lantern or top valved fonts do. I've got a number of them and none with cracks on them. Are those military's brass or a steel font? I believe it's the brass fonts that seem to have the biggest issues. At this point...they are static displays or parts stoves. Doug
