Zippo lighters?

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

kzhorse....nice photos, especially of the signs! Your display has some real beauties. My bro & I were Jeep Willy owners.

Kirk--Ronsonal, blue & yellow oil can, my family is z :MLAS 0 purists with the liquid. And Zippo lived up to their reputation to fix 'em for free. Real quality company, well made pieces.

Also, after thinking long and lightly about this, IMHO, Zippos ARE vintage camping equipment. My many childhood memories, & we spent a LOT of time in the remote outdoors, ALL the men in our camping/hunting parties pocketed them around pulling them out for a cigarette smoke, lighting lanterns, starting the fires, sterilizing needles, and burning the rope/cord ends to prevent fraying. How functional, light weight, a fire survival essential tool, certain to spark interest, and easy to pack around can a piece of camping equipment be? Yes, I say vintage camping it is, but Ron D. would probably do a poll for you on that thread.

My Dad probably had a Zippo lighter...I'll have to ask my Mom..he was such a snob about stuff..only Coleman equipment, only cooked with cast iron, etc...wait..that sounds like us!

They are certainly vintage camping accessories. Maybe not equipment like a stove, lantern, Coleman table or tent. But they do belong in the vintage camp for sure!

Slow...I think you are dead wrong. Have you met Kirk? Yeah..he has way more than mild OCD. But that's OK..we like him that way! You should see him work with the lanterns...and the DO...I would venture to say he could be considered a 'grue'!

Thank you, I have never considered myself a Grue. Sometimes I lead, sometimes I follow, and sometimes I just get out of the way. 8)

One of my goals is to meet and camp and wrench on Coleman with Slowcoyboy. I think he would be a kick to hang out with.

I don't know about Zippos being vintage camping gear. I would call them vintage smoking paraphernalia. My Dad had several. I may still have them some place.

I do have two Zippo rotating displays that sit on show case and light up. They aren't very old. maybe 20 years since I got them.
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

Love both of my Zippo lighters. One is my Great Grandfathers and the other one my sweetie got for me (A long pressurized butane one).

If I remember both go camping but usually its the long Zippo since its really handy for lighting things (campfires, lanterns, stoves, cigars and occasionally fingers..lol)

I love hanging out with you guys (and gals) and the way we encourage each others hobby, err habit, err addiction, oh well.
But I don't think I am going to be collecting Zippo Lighters. :)

Zippo lighters?

Postby Verna » Sat May 26, 2012 4:26 pm

I quit smoking 20 years ago this week (shameless gloat!!!), so I haven't carried a Zippo for a long time. The only one I would consider owning would be one like I owned in the 70's. It was a Ladies Zippo, with blue denim on it ( or the appearance of denim), with a small pink flower on it. I loved it and I looked for it for days when it came up missing. Oh well, I collect enough other stuff and don't need another way to spend $$$$!!!

I just did some research--it's not considered a "Ladies Zippo"--it's a Slimline.

No shame in that! Congratulations and it sounds like you are sticking with it (quitting, that is).

There's a guy at work who had quite smoking for 5 years, though his wife still smoked. He picked it back up again and now he can't figure out why he can't shake "this cold", with nagging cough.

I'm happy for you. :applause:
