Your not going to believe this.

Yesterday I had my tree guy cut down two large trees. He comes into my shop and sees some of my lanterns hanging off the wall.

We start talking and he says, I picked up a couple lanterns a few years ago that are just sitting on a shelf in the basement. I should bring them by and have you look at them. So today he comes back to finish up and this is what he brought.

The Sears may have only been lite once. It shows no wear, and fired right up!

Then he pulls this out.

I have never seen one of these lanterns before. Anyone know anything about it?

The best part is he says, you seem to be a collector and all I want is a good running 2 mantle lantern to take fishing. I'll trade you for a Coleman 2 burner if you want. Well he didn't have to say it twice. But I felt like I should do better. So I traded 2 nice looking/burning 220's. We were both happy!

Now how cool is that! I was looking at one of those Sears lanterns on Ebay. Didn't bid on it because I'm still holding out for a B-day 200A. My wife will kill me, but it is the only lantern I plan on buying.

Edit: found this tidbit: http://www.classicpressurelamps.com/for ... /post/new/

There also looks to be a couple of threads over on the Coleman Collector's Forum that may give some help.

Nice Sears lantern. Wouldn't mind finding one of those in the wild. I have heard of Ashflash, but don't know anything about them. Don't cha just love the look on peoples face when they see all the lanterns. I have a shelf above my desk that go's the whole length of the wall. All my runners are on the shelf with a few Coleman Jugs, funnels and old fuel cans. A couple of years ago we had to have the cable guy here and he looked at the lanterns and looked at me and just shook his head. :)

Well that link gave me some info and a place to start, thanks Bill! I do feel lucky to get the Sears. It's sort of strange. The guy that traded me could of cared less about it. All he wanted was a good 2 mantle Coleman to go fishing with. He knew I would appreciate it. I have only seen a few blue ones in the wild and they wanted stupid money for them. Last month I rebuilt a blue Sears Bighat with a blue vent for a friend. It was her family lantern. That is one lantern I want.

This is what it looked like before I started......

Jean, I have no post restoration pictures. I thought of that after the box was all packed and ready to ship back. As for the messy shop. It usually looks better then it does now. I have "work", a new build, cast iron projects and Coleman all over the place. What you see in the picture is only a quarter of the Coleman I have amassed. Slowly I work through it and get it going. Then I label it's condition. Otherwise I will never know what is what.

Nice lanterns Steve, especially the single mantle Sears. Just when I'm thinking that never happens to me a friend calls me tonight and says her cousin is having a yard sale tomorrow and has a 30 year old Coleman stove and 2 lanterns for sale. $10.00 each. I told her to grab them for me. Stay tuned for further details.
