If you were a kid in the 50's or 60's I'd be willing to bet that you have eaten off this dinnerware at least once in your life. For camping in the 50's, it was standard equipment in any camp outing. The wonderful world of MELMAC!! It came in a variety of colors, mostly solid in the early years, and then patterned in the 60's on up. The patterns in the 70's were great colors and patterns typical of the years. It's cheap stuff to collect! Mostly because a lot of people think it's just trash anymore, however I think any period type trailer ought to have some of it in the galley. It's lightweight and almost shatter proof. Mix and match....it's all good!

I put the word out that I was looking for some with a number of my customers. I got all of this, with the exception of the aqua stuff free. I've seen some for 50 cents a piece at the thrift stores, but got the aqua off E-bay for a total of 9.50. That makes it 23 cents a piece. If someone has some large aqua Texas Ware plates, I'd trade some of the other pieces to you for them. I've got plates for 12 and won't be needing that much. Maybe we could come up with a couple of sets of dishes. It's a perfect match for my aqua boomerang formica. Names to look for, Texas Ware, Boonton, Russel Wright, Arrowhead, Brookpark.

growing up my friends had a cabin in the woods that was more or less a parked trailer home that their grandpa added on to whenever he got a hair up his ass. These dishes are all they had, and that was in the late 80s and early 90s :p

We have some ware like that up at our hunting camp. The guys would/will bring up whatever extra ware they have at home that they don't use (or that their spouses are ready to through out).

You say that's camping ware? We ate off the stuff at home as children . I think it's Melamine the same stuff that covers particle board cabinet interiors. We have some new Melamine plates with colored stripes for the teardrop. Nice looking collection you have Doug. Danny

But it will not survive a microwave. I destroyed 40 yr old serving dish tht way
There may be some for sale at Spamboree (THE LAST & FINAL) in a couple of weeks. Plus a little cast iron if I can get it cleaned up in time.

I purchased this set of 50s Windsor Melmac from an estate sale on ebay. There is a ton of this stuff on ebay. I like the mixture of colors so I can add pieces of any color. More than enough for me.

Yep, I remember the day Dad brought home that box of indesstructable dinnerware; Mom loved them! I believe she was still using them well into the 1980s

We searched long and hard for the perfect melmac plates and cups for our trailer... sadly we didn't find any vintage bowls or glasses, so the "new" version at target had to suffice:


We have five matching plates, two brown, one yellow and one teal cup, and 2 new bowls and 4 new glasses.

We searched through the silverware buckets at the thrift store for the PERFECT vintage small silverware, too...
