I don't know how this happened.

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

I don't know how this happened.

Postby Woodbutcher » Tue Aug 10, 2010 7:32 pm

I have been following this section for some time. It's interesting to see what people kick up when collecting. Three weeks ago I am at a flea market and find a real clean 242C lantern for 10 bucks. Figure that will be a good lantern to carry in the tear. Well Sunday I'm back at the flea and find 2 real nice 220F lanterns for 10 bucks each. Only played with one but it still had fuel and good mantels and it fired right up. Three is plenty, right. Then on the way back to the car I pass 2 Coleman stoves. A 413E and a 413D . Both complete and pretty nice shape. I say , "What do you want on the stoves?" He says 6 bucks each. So I bought the 2 for 11 bucks. Then today I bought these. Average price $11.00. Now can someone tell me how to stop this before it becomes a problem and I have to go to weekly meetings!

Here is the group. I will need to learn how to clean them all up. But that should be fun.

These all came from the same guy, 9 lanterns and the case.
The oldest one says Coleman Nick-Lite with an 8-11 on it. No model number that I can find. Anyone know about this thing?

I got 2-228F
one 275 Brown turd
one 200A
one 220H
one 220F
one 220J
one CL-1
and an old aluminum case with some mantles and a funnel inside.

:o Holy Crap! You got it bad. Your first problem started when you left them unattended. They do have a habit of breeding when left alone. Good luck with the meetings, we only end up talking "Coleman" anyways.

there is no meetings for this that I know of, the only cure is to keep on buying them till you end up on the tv show hoarders.. lolol
looks like a dandy start and your past me already!
looks like you might have a nice globe on the old quicklite. under the logo on the fount there should be a couple numbers stamped.. Mine is a 7 7 july 1927.. the rest you should be able to date from the bottoms of the fount.. have fun!!

Reminds me of an old Star Trek episode: The Trouble with Tribbles.

The first step to a cure is to admit you have a problem, so.....

You guys make me laugh. I was hoping some one would say stop. But you seem to be encouraging me. The only numbers I can find on the Nick-Lite is an 8 11 that is all I can find. This can't be August 1911 can it?

Can you post some better picture of this lantern?

As for the date, it most likely is Nov 1928. Older lanterns had year first then month. Figuring out the model number will answer the date question.

BTW :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: You got it bad... :D :D :D :D

After further review, if you are talking about the one 2nd from the right. It looks like a L220 or "Slant".

From Terry Marsh's site.
Coleman made the L220 and L228 for a short time in 1928.
The L220 above, dated Aug. '28, is running with the original T88 generator.
To accommodate the pump, which is mounted into the center of the fount,
the fuel pickup tube had to swivel for removal (below the 2nd set of threads).
Note the air tube along the left side of the fuel pickup tube,
which is necessary for the Instant Lite feature.

Look here. 2/3 way down the page.

Hey Jeremy, that may be the model. I will look at it closer and post a better picture. Thanks for the info.

Betsey ,I think I am far enough away from Doug to be OK. But I have read that he knows his stuff and may be part of the reason I did this. Maybe he can be my sponsor if needed. But I can't stay away from Flea Markets that's for sure. Maybe I'll run out of money before I run out of space!

I'm innocent! ....I only show others what I have become interested in as it applies to camping. I don't believe I twisted any arms...just brains...he he..Hey, it's not all that expensive and you get a lot of enjoyment out of it all. I pass on a number as giveaways to people and raffle gifts at gatherings.

At the IRG...I was thinking this is great...I got rid of 8 lanterns and some stoves...but I talked Norm out of a Norm's Speed Shop T shirt and told him that if there were anything I could do for him I would. The shirt was left in my trailer and next week, Steve E came home with a 220 lantern from Norm that I could build.... that's OK....Norm builds some great Rat Rods...and I've been given rides to boot....small price to pay I guess. Now I gotta build his lantern....such is life. It's all good and cheap fun....In the words of Nancy Reagan....JUST SAY NO!!!! Doug ;) ;)

OK ya'll here are a few close ups. The hat is in pretty bad shape but it is usable. This will give me something to shop for.

Hope these show enough. And Doug I promise not to blame you as my shed fills up. You just seem to be a wealth of information, you can't help that.

Jeremy thanks for your help, I think this looks like the lantern in the post from last night. Do you know if the hat was used on any other models, making it easier to find?

I am not sure on the the vent. It may be the same as an early 220. The generator on that lamp is hard to find. If you end up needing one, let me know and I will give you an email address of a collector that should have one.

Can you post a picture of the globe also?
