Always love to see the finds. Thanks! Is that a normal control knob on the 242? Is that your full collection of 200's? How many of those are in for a full resto or paint job?
Thanks again! Keith

That is not a normal 242 knob. The normal one is molded to the shaft. Looks to me the original broke off some time ago and some one soldered on that knob. Like one of the model T fords my dad got. This one the steering wheel felt a little funny to me when we pushed it about. Took a little bit to realize that in years past the original wood rim of the wheel was gone and instead of replacing it they had bent a pipe in a circle and screwed it in place. Was a very good repair. I told dad I would just leave it as it is. So now that model T has a custom steering wheel.

Yep somebody melted that thing on. It works but its hard to turn. I had to use a wrench. Its all good . I am not going to change it. 8)

I just watched a bunch of Dean and Joanies cast iron cooking videos. Those two are the CI masters. They take sooo much time and layer the dishes. It is truly an art.

I saw a few too...I'm hoping to pick up a whole bunch of tips at the Dam. I'll take something to the pot luck, but it won't be anything like what you and the other masters will be bringing. I'm really new at DO. It's not a habit yet. But I want to make it one, since everything tastes so much better cooked that way!!

Now..out to weatherstrip the galley hatch. Tear is washed and waxed. Water tank disinfected and flushed. I still need to test the stove. I've tried out the EZ Up and the sides. I just need to test the water tightness during the upcoming storms...hope it holds.

Oh, gotta replace a bulb on the front..I know which one is out, then make a snake of putty to seal the lens to the housing. Battery is on the tender. Clean up, clear scooter for takeoff, put on DMV sticker, put hooks on truck web, and then I can throw the pile of clothes into the duffel bag and get ready to roll.

You'd think we were leaving this week!

Just trying to get ahead of the game in case I have another leak to fix.

Oh..gotta go out and wash and wax the fenders...I'm going to have them painted sometime this year, all dinged to heck and peeling a bit..so they will need blasting. But I want the 'Hopper to look good at the Dam..she's going to be camping with some beautiful teardrops and I want her to look nice!!

BTW..Lazybones made it safely on the first leg of the scooter race. He did very well time-wise.

Thats cool about Lee. I washed my tear today also.

I also fixed my red box that came with one of the other 242s. I replaced the leather hinges and latch.

I know they look rough but they are an exact copy of the ones that were on it.

As far as the cast iron stuff goes everyone is new to it every day you cook. The conditions are never the same twice. Many factors including environment effect dishes. Over the last couple of days I have been practicing cobbler for the dam. Two batches -- both flops. I think I am just trying to make it too fancy. At a cookoff sometimes you just get lucky. No second chances at a cookoff so I always do tried and true recipies, no tweeking! At home I am always trying to come up with something new. Maybe have some kind of breakthrough. It normally flops.

Here is my last flop cobbler. It is still warm at the posting of this picture.

It is a Apple Blackberry cobbler with cream cheese and almonds.

Its burnt on top and soup in the middle. I just tried to put way to much stuff in a 10" oven. I always try to practice in a 10" so I dont waste a bunch of food .

The taste actually came out pretty darn good.

That cobbler looks great KirK! I like the apple/blackberry combination. Maybe I'll try an apple/blackberry pie in the pizza oven at the Dam. I did it a couple of years ago in a downpour. Doug

Kirk...I think you need to practice making it at the Dam. That way, you won't be wasting any food....

I recall telling someone very recently that anything with berries is good, unless it's a chocolate cake with raspberries. And you said there was cream cheese involved in this!!

Doug..NO DOWNPOUR ALLOWED!!!! You are not even allowed to speak of it! Or type it!!

Will you people please stop jinxing the Dam Gathering with rain. No jinx!

And yes it has dots of cream cheese in there. So you are just cruzin through the apple and almonds and butter and blackberry and cake and you hit on a pocket of warm cream cheese. Its pretty cool. 8)
