I was not going to go, we have a bunch of family in town. I had to cook and entertain and all that. I did sneak off to the bootfair this morning - just for an hour or so.

It was glorious. This is what I took home.

The first is a 220D 1947. $12

Image

Image

Next is my FIRST maroon 200A. My heart started racing when I saw it. $10

Image

The vent is almost perfect. It will be a great rebuild.

Image

Next is a 1966 200A broken glass but decent. $8

Image

And a 425E that I dont need or want, I just could not stop myself.

I thought we was your family now.

Nice haul. I really like that 220D

I took my rich running Mil Spec out to the wood shed ( shop ) and tore the burner cage off and found in that 1967 Coleman both of the air tubes are used, unlike the 2 SMPs I had looked at yesterday. But I could see remains of a mud dabber in there.Reamed them out and blew them out. Tied on a new mantel while the cage was on the bench and reassembled. Fire that baby up and now it is burning nice a sweet. Noisy of course. Yesterday when I started to put mantles on I opened up a 6 pack of what looked to me some no name or who knows what mantles. But they turned out to have Thermos on them. Could not see the thermos through the package. Wow those sure do burn pretty and white.

But it sure is strange that Coleman started to burn rich when it did after several fonts of fuel. only thing I can think is something broke loose and lodged in there just right. None of the burner tubes was plugged by any more than a bit of mud on the walls.

bonnie wrote:While out thrifting with my daughter I found a Coleman 425B. $7. Everything seems to be there, including fuel in the tank. I will probably set it aside for the moment and get the garage cleaned up, before I start making stove parts everywhere. It needs cleaned. All the old stickers are on it, so I probably won't paint it. I couldn't find a date, but did see a sticker that instructed how to lower the legs that has the following on it: 1950-624. If that's the manufacture date, this thing is older than I am.  No pics tonight. Maybe when I cook on it the first time. :)

I like those old 425s The oldest I have is a 425C, maybe 2 I forgot. I think yours has the "Pipe" shaped fuel tank. If I could find one of those in good usable shape I would put it in the TD instead of the 425F I have had since 1988. And used a lot.

A whole lot.

Here is a little something I picked up a month or so back from ShopGoodwill.com. At least it wasn't the bay.

I haven't done anything with it yet. Does make a fine paper weight.

Make that. Bx auto spell check on the iPad. Whoops. Randy just tried to light it. Holds pressure. The bent over doohickey that adjusts the flame is "frozen" says my hubby. He's a working on it.

The "doohickey" doesn't adjust the flame, it cleans the tip on the generator. Under burning conditions it should be in the down position, if you need to clean the tip you'll want to rotate it a complete turn or two to clean the carbon from the genertor tip with it returning to the down position.

Coleman Keepers Campfire come on in!

Postby nevadatear » Sun May 20, 2012 10:21 pm

Thanks Kevin. He did figure out the part about it being the tip cleaner from the parts diagram. I still am not sure about the single mantle. It is stamped with 3. And then 4 and a nickel fount. 242 but what version.? I am confused by the dating scheme change is it march of 44 or April of 43. Oh and the220bx lit right up! Needs a tune up though. Randy is intrigued and gonna get them going I think. I see by the lack of eBay postings the Bx seems to be not so common.

Hum there is a leak on the Bx at the tip cleaner.

nevadatear wrote:We had something unusual in our little burg last weekend, an small estate auction. Randy and I went out and couldn't resist. Now, we are not becoming collectors, it was just too good to pass up. Four lanterns and a vintage first aid kit for the nurse for $25. Here is what we got before I washed them up a little.

One at a time. We're going to keep this single mantle. It matches the trailer. It needs a screw (not a nut) on the top to hold the top in place. Anyone? I lost my paper that I had the model and age. I think this one is 1948
Image
This one is says 3 3 on the bottom and is in great shape
Image
This big hat is 1947. The fount is in pretty bad shape and has no globe. Maybe useful for parts.
Image
This one is also in great shape, but it is 1974
Image
We figure we will keep the single mantle 242, give away one at IRG raffle, maybe offer one to a real collector for the price of a tune up on the one we want to keep. Any takers? Did we do good?

I found my notes and with you all's help I think I have them dated and id'ed

The single mantle with the nickel fount is 242c march of 1944

The all green with the yellow label is a 220bx march of 1943-/

The nickel font/green big hat is 228d April 1947

The baby of the group is the all green 220j. 1978

Thanks everyone. Now randy just has to get three of them running fir the IRG.

If you decide to get rid of the BX let me know. I sold the only one I had to a collector, it was his Birthday lantern so I had to.

Nevadatear, your single mantle looks like a 242, no letter so it would be dated mid 1930's unless its been put together with parts. The pump and vent are very eary, bail is wrong, and can't tell about other stuff from your picture. Nice items you picked up

I just had one of those moments in life that one hopes for. My son who is 18 and independent about 30 % of the time told me tonight that he is done with propane and want to take a white gas Coleman on an all night fishing trip. So we went through the drill on white gas and he says to me why didnt I do this sooner? Sometimes there is peace in the universe. Ommmm. Ommmmm.

All joking aside I knew he would come around.  8) 8)
