I finally got around to buying some shelves ( I still need more ).

Image

This is not all of them, just most of the working lanterns. I still have more in boxes and cases.
I went through them the other day and emptied the old fuel and sorted them according to working, not working(needs rebuilt), no hope or( parts).
Next I suppose I will be labeling them. I have been thinking I may start selling them so I can keep up the hunt. :D

Out of the 28 that I labeled and diagnosed 21 of them are functional. There are a few more with minor abnormalities, like cap gaskets. I was really surprised to know such a high percentage worked. Most of the lanterns I buy are beaters.

Well I'd be interested in picking up a couple of workers. Maybe a single mantle and a double. I'm not picky about color or hat size, they all look good to me.

Dad's were the traditional green color.
My B-day is 8/65, but that doesn't matter too much to me right now, just want some workers to take on the big Poet Creek trip this summer. :worship:

Anybody thinking about flipping some lanterns drop me a line. I just don't have the time to take away from my build to go out into the wild and hunt.

I will be able to help. I will dig through the horde and see what I have. It not I will find it in the wild. I have a steady flow of lanterns and I am happy to find them a good home.

Of all the lanterns I fixed or sorted today this is the one that gave me fits. Doug told me long ago, " Dont fool around with a rebuild just take it all apart and clean it first, it will haunt you later it you dont" . That is a paraphrase of course, but you get the gist of it. Oh no not me I am a hacker. If I think I can cut a corner on lanterns I always try. It never works. Doug is always right.

Forum meet Angela. Angela is # 26 and has not co-operated all day. Angela is 9-64 redhead who is temperamental and challenges authority. Angela does not like walks on the beach or long talks. She wants to be left alone. After much cleaning and rooting and begging, Angela has come around.

I was so grateful when Angela decided to fire things up that I gave her a shinny new stainless steel washer for her vent nut.

All joking aside it been a great memorial day weekend I hope you all had fun. See you next week. 8)

Thanks Kirk. I'd surely be happy to have you scout around for me. Surprised to hear you say you would consider letting any go; thought you were too far gone for that. :R  :R

Two more thoughts in jest:
(1) That means I have my own Picker? Kind of following in the shadows of "The Great One" Hodder. 8) :D (Hey, I can dream, can't I?)
(2) So you've resorted to dealing to support your own habit? Now I know we need to intervene.

Really, I'm just kidding. Aren't I?

But seriously, PM me or drop on over to The Poet Creek Express thread if you come up with a solid worker or two. I'd be elated to pay a fair price and shipping. It'd be a load off of my mind to get that squared away before the trip in August.

Thanks.

Coleman Keepers Campfire come on in!

nevadatear wrote:Thanks Kevin. He did figure out the part about it being the tip cleaner from the parts diagram. I still am not sure about the single mantle. It is stamped with 3. And then 4 and a nickel fount. 242 but what version.? I am confused by the dating scheme change is it march of 44 or April of 43. Oh and the220bx lit right up! Needs a tune up though. Randy is intrigued and gonna get them going I think. I see by the lack of eBay postings the Bx seems to be not so common.

Hum there is a leak on the Bx at the tip cleaner.

Debbie, you are correct. The BX had a short production run during WWII, less than 2 years IIRC. Your 242 would be dated April 1934. In that era they stamped the dates with the second digit of the year first, then the month. Not a common lantern to find these days, and that is a fine looking example. Same for the rest of them for that matter. If you need help with parts or what not, I know some local sources (local being Reno of course).

Shaun that is still confusing. If it was April of 34 wouldn't it be 4-3? If it is reverse in that decade would it be march of 1934? Thanks for the help!
Debbie (with Randy looking over my shoulder)
