Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Where are you located? We might be able to help you find you in your area. This would be a great one for you to get. it's a 200 but it's called a Christmas tree because of the colors. They didn't make many of these!

Well, if you see any Craigslisted near the Chicago area (preferably west suburbs) you could add the link to this post, or the the Sale/Wanted forum.
Thanks! I agree -- a mellow light might be best.

well well, it looks like we have a few more addicts, er, I mean aficionados in the making

Just remember once you get one they breed like rabbits.... In no time you will have a dozen...

gotta warn ya though, Jeremy speaks the truth. And stoves are even worse than lanterns.... :o

the "1973" lantern is not from '73. It's from March of 1947. That's a great lantern with an original globe!

The Sears doesn't look right to me. There's a lip around the top of the fount (fuel tank) that the collar is supposed to hide but if you look at the picture, it doesn't. It looks like the collar is too small or the tank is too big. I don't own a single mantle sears so i may be wrong. Someone else might have a differnet opinion.

The red 200A looks great.

I may go for a propane lantern, since I already have a propane stove and bottles of the gas.

In a two mantle lantern - can you run on only one mantle if one breaks? Or do you have to stop then and there, and replace it?

Nice choices. I believe the Sears is correct, their single mantle ran a bigger fount than a standard 200A and the lip does show. Any of them would be a worthy addition as long as the prices don't get crazy 8) (yes, I am cheap lol)

They are both fueled by a single valve, so you have to replace it if one breaks. But they are quite simple to replace. Running a broken one is a no-no, the fuel is not burned completely and it can flare. This goes for propane as well as gas.

The Sears is correct. I had to look at mine to check.

Haaa Haaa we are all doomed. I still swear they breed while your back is turned. Starts out innocently with a lantern, then two, then a stove or two, then a cooler, then an oven and so on and so on....

Once you're into it...it's hard to not end up with some....I took 8 lanterns and 2 stoves to the IRG that got given away...and came back with another lantern...it's a damned never ending circle....Doug

Ratkity....don't get carried away with e-bay....you'll do much better on getting going on some of the basic lanterns/stoves by hitting the local flea markets and garage sales. It's not uncommon to pick up really decent lanterns for well under 10$. If you find some beaters for a buck or 2...you ought to get them. They may have parts that can be used in the restoration of another lantern and save the $$ on the new parts. #1 thing to look for...an undented tank, and a good quality vent. The rest of the stuff is easy to come by. Doug
