We've all found ours on e-bay between 10 and 30$. I got a 10$ one...third in line. Made new handles...was missing one. I'd imagine that you could find them at thrift stores yard sales etc....

Precook a hot dog or we use breakfast sausages too...mix up a batch of waffle batter or corn bread mix...heat the iron till the pam is almost smoking, we've all done it on a Coleman stove...pour batter, flop in a dog on a bamboo skewer, pour some more batter over the top, close and cook. They cook real fast...can also put in all sorts of fruit/nuts but watch the high sugar fruits...they can cause it to stick. 10 count hot dogs work best for a corn dog...smaller diameter allows a better wrap of corn bread. Doug, after seeing this thread my wife said to me "So when are you buying one?"

I take that as permission to get one, right?

You know, you could add a slice of bacon and the you would have "Bacon Waffle Dogs". Yum.

Great instructions from Doug, but you really have to SEE the waffle dog gang at work, watching them was half the fun! And they are GOOD! Thanks again guys for cooking them up!

In addition to the fixin's in the item...we also had a variety of dipping sauces...scratch built blueberry syrup, maple etc....Once Sue gets back, we'll post a video...it's real corny!

Just so you guys know...they should have the hinges on them and the 2 sides should be hinged together, at least all that we have seen are that way. There recently was a pair on e-bay, but weren't joined and it wasn't apparent if they had broken hinges that were ground off or not. It wouldn't be hard to hinge it however. Handles are easily made or replaced. I just got some 7" 1/4 20 bolts and drilled some dowels on mine. The patent info shows that they were hinged. Doug

Instead of one hot dog, will two link sausages fit? That with some maple syrup would make an interesting breakfast waffle dog.

It'll take like 1.5 links to fill each side. We did some like that and they fit just fine. I'm thinking a ham "stick" would be great! Doug

PS...another real treat is to make "wa-dingers" I think someone has some pics of those. You make your own cooking apparatus on them...and they also are wayyyyy good. Newbies to making them are always fun as the preparation can be very suggestive. That's what we really need a video of! Made them at the IRG.

To the best of my knowledge, the Waffle Dog Iron was marketed in the 50's & 60's...

One could use the 1.5 links to make the sausage dogs, and use the extra 1/2 sausages to make some sausage gravy.

My arteries are clogging just thinking about it -- but it would probably be pretty good with black coffee on a cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

cold morning.

BTW, I left all those "o" characters so you can see what happens when the batteries die on a wireless bluetooth keyboard.
