Check it out!!! update...now 500$

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Postby Arne » Thu Dec 09, 2010 11:12 am

I've watched antique road show and wondered who would pay such prices for things....

So, if you got this stove, what would you do with it? You can't use it or its value plummets.... put it on the mantel and drool?

It's all about supply and demand.

Why do people spend millions of dollars on cars thet they will never drive? .

Why do people collect baseball cards and why are the worth any more than the piece of paper they are printed on?

That is a $150 to $250 stove in my opinion. It is a very collectible piece. Would I buy it for that price? No. I would pay $40-50 maybe.

I wonder if anyone will be stupid enough to bid on it? Watch the wording on the Gold Bold lanterns also. There is a on guy who is selling fakes on E-Pray.

I think if I were to find any Gold Bond item....I'd just turn around and sell it. I'd rather have the dough than another stove or lantern, just cuz it's mustard yellow. Doug

gold bond

Well that is a nice stove and now with a 75% discount. To tell the truth it is nice and would love to have one. But I think I would rather have one that was used and you could ponder on a story of its life and use, rather than one in a box for so many years. Like Dougs golden oldie. Now that is a stove of history and a story to ponder on at the camp fire after a good dinner.

good point! I've got a family stove that cooked the very first rainbow trout that I caught, 52 yrs. ago. I still remember that day, the crappy canvas umbrella tent that stunk with the hole in the floor, Skipper the dog, the 57 Ford station wagon we took on the trip and my dinner perfectly! The stove isn't in perfect shape...and I won't restore it, it's been with me over 30 years, I figure that grandpa's finger prints are still on it somewhere, at least his memory is there with it in all the dirt and minor scorched paint marks.

If it's something that I have no personal ties to, and isn't operational or in many cases, something that someone is just going to throw out...I restore, once complete and operating, I do ponder what sort of history it has behind it, and who has enjoyed a meal cooked on it. It would be interesting to hear what stories an old stove or lantern could tell. Doug

Excelent point Doug!!!
My brother gave me mom's skillet and I wish I would've just left it alone.
It had 1/4" or better of crud built up on the outside of the wall where the handle is and it had been that way ever since I was a kid.
I decided to strip it down and reseason it...
When I took it out of the elctrolysis bath I found out why so much crud had built up in that area... It was cracked and that's when I realized I should've just left it alone.
I was so disappointed, I didn't even reseason it, just stuck it away. :(

I made an offer for $28 early on, for some reason I didn't get a response

I've got a set of Jewel Tea mixing bowls that belonged to my mom, she got them when I was a little kid. I can remember lots of good things being mixed in them, use them myself often and never fail to think of her. Same with the iron skillets I've been cooking in for almost 30 years. :)

Scott, the gold would pull a better price on Ebay. But Doug might have to ship it to Japan

Now if we could convince Doug to equip it with authentic Gold Bond appliances. That would be a $75,000 trailer.

$660 for a lantern?

I seriously need a time machine, so I can go back, but a lot of cheap stuff, and stash it in my attic. :(
