Preheating is mainly for the old lanterns that run on kerosene.

You won't be chased off if you bring a battery powered lantern. I have my lanterns. But; I have only taken one once.

Oh I intend on bringing my battery lanterns! I used them in my tent, and will use them in the tear. But the white gas ones burn so much brighter. But I plan on bringing only the 220 and putting it on the table (if there is a picnic table) and using the battery ones to get around with.

And then there are the solar lights and flashlight, and the 'eco twistr' twist flashlight....they will be camping too!

the gas lanterns are too bright for me most of the time.. Kind of silly of me to own so many.

I mainly like to tinker. So; the lanterns fit right in with my personality

you are right - you do not need to preheat a generator. However, if you've ever had one "flame off" on you (and you are missing some eyebrows to prove it) you'll know why some do preheat generators. sometimes the 200's will be a bit temperamental about lighting off since they have only one mantle to warm up the generator. Sometimes they like to spit fireballs. If you never have experienced a flame up - then get ready because odds are it will happen. If you warm up the gen before hand - it is less likely to happen.

Some of the much older lanterns and kero ones need to be pre-heated and could have a cup or the Q99 gennie with the loop in it. Those need to be preheated. As a sidebar...some stoves also have pre-heat cups on them as well. This all predates "insta-lite". Doug

so what is the best way to preheat the gen on my 200? I plan on lighting on Thanksgiving...
