Lets see...'70 Yukon, need to finish small items. '57 Metz needs polished and cabinets re-finished. '47 Kit frame needs a body framed, so does '47 Kampmaster, just bought a '67 Playmor, needs complete restoration, trying to buy a '58 Spartan. Oh yeah, building a new tongue box for the wood Touring Lodge.Whew..I thought I was about caught up!

Do I see a Honda Super 90 in there?

Visible in that photo are my first motorcycle, a '71 Yamaha DT1, and my '96 Honda XR400. Otherwise my tastes in 2-wheeled rolling stock tends towards British and Italian with a special penchant for German scooters... That said, I wouldn't mind a Honda S90! :D

How many of those motorcycles/scooters actually run?

About half, but that number is always in flux. A vintage vehicle is really only "done" when you move it along to somebody else's custodianship...

I was once riding on the very dark Malibu Canyon Road on a Triumph Bonneville late one night. At the time there were no street lights on this road and there is a 300 foot (more or less) shear drop on one side of the road. I wanted more light so I switched from "low beam" to "high beam" and got "no beam". There were a few intense moments before "there was light". Since then I've had no particular affection for anything with Lucas electrical components. I gotta admit though, those old British bikes sounded way cooler than today's "crotch rockets".

My first bike was a 65 Honda Super 90. I put a ton of miles on that bike and a new (used) engine when it threw a rod as I was going down PCH at 65 mph (fast for a 100cc ,bored out, 90cc bike).

Cheers,

Gus

I remember once someone on this forum referred to to Lucas as the prince of darkness. And lucas electrics had three settings Dim, Flicker and Smolder.

Hey Gus...this year's Cannonball doesn't really have too many rules on classes...they opened it up a lot, so it doesn't have to be stock..Lee can fill you in on it more. There are still some restrictions, of course. But rarely are the bikes stock anyway. There are always some mods to them..but nothing outrageous. They're still scooters, not crotch rockets..

Only Lee can pull this off. I don't think there is another person out there that can out-do Lee with building a vintage Scoot from the ground up and make it run the distance. And look good at the same time. He's the master at these old scoots. He knows how far he can push the envelope and knows he's the one who has to wrench on it when something goes wrong.

I cannot wait to see the pictures as they show up on the Cannonball site as these guys and gals head across the country. I'll see if I can find the link so we can all track Lee as he hauls butt across the country..I'm still not sure what he's going to do when he has to go offroad on that thing..seems like he's going to get mired in mud, but maybe it won't be bad on the southern route they're taking this year. I know he's got it figured out..I heard him talking about that exact thing at our rally in August.

Lee is really upping the ante with this build. Will be really interesting how he shakes up the scooter world with this...

Kirk..do you know anything about scooters? Like what kind you would want? What would you be doing with it? Looking for comfort..aka touring scooter? Or speed? Or something you can build? Riding around town? Long distances in the country?

I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing to get you hooked on scooters....they will be multiplying in your garage before you know it...look what happened to Lee...

Get one you can fit in the bed of your truck so you can take it with the teardrop...

I like them all. The ruckus seems to have special appeal. I already know that one cannot be good for all situations so its gona take a few to get it right.

It seem like they just like lanterns. You must have an old one, a new one, a red one, a project, a showpiece, a worker, a little one, and a big one. Oh yea and a frankie. 8)

I currently have a Honda XR200. I converted it to street legal and ride it occasionally when one of our cars is down. It goes 35 mph just fine which is all the faster I like to go as the wind sets off pain in my ears due to my frazzled nerves. I wanna take it with me this summer on my "road trip" and do a little trail riding. Slow and easy.

I had a great time on my '65 Super 90. I wanna say I put 20,000 miles on it but that now seems a bit much. I used to think nothing of taking it from the north edge of the San Fernando Valley (where I lived) to Malibu via Topanga Canyon. A little slow on the uphill side but great sport on the downhill side.

Cheers,

Gus

Add 4" pipe to hold sewer hose.
Build spare tire carrier.

Repaint house
