Vintage Coleman and other stuff....

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Postby Juneaudave » Wed Nov 26, 2008 12:04 am

Kind of a fun thread IMHO!!! Now I'm really going to get serious and pull my old duel mantle Coleman lantern out of the attic this weekend...I can't remember, but something went futz on it and I couldn't shut it off anymore after lighting it. Rather than fixing it, that's when I ditched it and bought a propane unit a few years ago. I think there is a stove up there with an artistically bent top too...

I'm sure you can fix it Dave...not that many parts to them, probably needs a good cleaning and a little TLC. I bought a new gallon of carb cleaner today....really cleans up all the carbon and crud on them. Got tons of stuff out of one tank (nickel)....don't use carb cleaner on the paint, unless you plan on a repaint.

Glad you enjoy the thread Dave...that was my point, to get some people to resurrect some of the older equipment that may have gone by the wayside and forgotten. There's lots of life left in them. ;) Doug

I have almost finished building my box for my Sears/Coleman lantern. I just need to line the inside with felt an apply my decal when it arrives.

Those red Sears are really nice! Great find Bob...
Here's a pic of my Voyager commemorative lantern. I took the 1969, cleaned it up and painted it to match the trailer. Still need to get the etching on the globe and the tank decal, but have no artwork to use yet.

Dave...did you find the stuff in your attic yet? Doug

That turned out very nice Doug. It almost looks like a new lantern.

Jeremy, if you get that little blue Sears single burner, you're going to need to make a matching box for it. It's cool that you have all the blue stuff! I haven't found any....all green is what I'm finding. Doug

I have decided that if I don't get the one I was looking at, I may just make my own. I will just pick up a green Coleman and repaint it to match the lantern.

Finally remembered to dig my 2 old lanterns out

First: an Coleman 2 Mantle, model unknown

Second: Coleman Single Mantle Model #2426

I have no idea of the ages, they were my grandfathers, then passed to my father many years ago. The reflectors are a home made addition.

BG...thanks for the pics...on that first one...are there any numbers on the bottom of it? Looks like a 220 series, just a guess....on the bottom you will find the dates on them both. Typically the frame rests (collars) will have the model numbers on them. Doug

Doug,

The green one says "7" and "80" stamped on the bottom (I'm guessing July of 1980?)
Just noticed this one says Model 220K on it.

The silver one says "49" and "5" stamped on it. (May of 49?)

Thanks
