In other words, don't ask Doug to hold your beer while you do something failworthy.

Yeah...I'm bad that way....I always remember something stupid that someone did and will always bring it up at real inopportune times to embarrass them. At times however, their lost digit or other battle scar seems to suffice in lieu of sarcasm. Doug

Hmm, do I resemble that remark Oh Douggy? Think how much of my thumb I could have cut off if I had been drinking! However, pure carelessness will have to suffice as a reason. oh, and knock knock, knock knock, knock ...

Debbie...accidents are one thing, self inflicted injuries in an attempt to amuse others is something worth reminding them about. Sorry, I forgot about your thumb incident and this wasn't directed towards anyone in particular. It's mostly for those people with the "here, hold my beer and watch this" moments. Doug

Nothing good ever comes from a "hold my beer" moment. I take that back, the stories that we tell around the campfire can be pretty good. Like the time 'ole Eddie stopped by a garage sale on his way to the campground and bought an old canvas deck chair for $1. I just got done telling him to be careful that old canvas may look like it's in good shape and could be dry rotted. A couple of minutes later i'm sitting next to him and hear a ripping sound. His bum hit the ground and the chair collapsed around him, but he saved the beer! I wet myself from laughing so hard! I can still remember the look on his face as he was going down. Ahh times, good times.

Fortunately when it comes to drinking I dont get adventurous anymore.. :(

After a fateful boozy afternoon trying to be Evel Knievel in front of the house on my Sportster I ended up $15k poorer (no health insurance) and now have to explain to TSA why my right leg sets off the metal detectors.. :NC

Cured me of being stupid while drunk permanently..

I too have missing digits. A few know. Guess what and why? A clue is I was hunting at the time of the loss. :o

Andy...I did something similar, but was much younger and no alcohol was involved...back in the early 70's a movie came out about Evil Kinevil (sp?) and as kids in Alaska all the neighbor hood kids had dirt bikes. You can probably figure out the rest... Someone abandoned an early 60's Comet in the woods and we set up a ramp and everyone had to jump across it, not before we played Bonnie and Clyde with it and our .22's however.. My Yamaha 125 Enduro that had a milled head and an expansion chamber (the hot bike) ended up having to get new shocks on the rear...I did make it, but was poorer for the parts, they only had like 5" of travel back then. We had nice soft dirt to land in....at that age we were pretty much invincible. Sorry to hear of your more expensive experience. Live and learn huh? Doug

Thanks for your story at the Dam 2012 Kirk....I forgot about that one...I shouldn't have mentioned missing digits...

Kirk...I even got animal heads hanging in the house because of it, first big game hunt at 14....Alaska as a kid in the 60's was about as free and fun as it gets. Take a snowmachine to high school, ride the dirtbike the rest of the time. Ice fish on the way home from school, have a trapline. Lots of people back then got on an airplane in Alaska toting a rifle or a pistol and no one thought twice about it. I used to get my bike hauled to Nome and spend the summer living with some of dads business contacts kids. When they put in the concrete sidewalks in Nome, we hauled the dirt from under the original boardwalks in a wagon behind the bike to their house and panned it for gold. We had a totegote and my '68 Trailmaster. What a good time it was! Shooting rats at the dump....heaven, mom even made us a lunch...Doug

Ouch Kirk..

Back in those days I really thought I was invincible (Street Racing with 400 HP and drum brakes, Wheelies, Jumping Stuff with streetbikes, etc.) That 10 second slide cured me of stupid..LOL

I remember my best friend Rolly and I bought a book when we were 14..."learn how to wheelie as far as you want". We waited forever for it to show up, didn't want mom and dad to find in in the mail...I never really paid much attention to it, but there was a big section on medical attention. Never mind that...we just wanted to do the wheelie thing...It wasn't till much later when I got the 500 single that I got to shifting the gears and really riding a wheel stand in good balance. I got pretty good, then wrecked, went over backwards....now have a knee cap that makes it difficult to drive a standard and regularly pops. A price to pay for a Christmas card picture....Doug
