Thursday I was hauling manure past an estate sale so I stopped the truck and went in. I found a 220H from Feb 1974. In the original box that has seen some abuse. Looked pretty good so I bought it. $20 but it is an estate. Got it home. It had been burned very very little. There was a birthday card in the box with it from his kids. The font was full of fuel. Probably 35+ year old fuel. I got the old mantel dust out of it and cleaned it up a bit. Only a few spots of rust, very minor really. Missing the ball nut but I have an extra. I tie on the mantels that was in the box and burned them it and then fired it up with the gas that was in it. Wow, that is one bright lantern. Burns nice, real nice.
Try to get pictures tomorrow.

220H 2 74

Here it is.

Image

inside burner cage after I have burned it about 8 hours.

Image

Vent with ball nut from my spares box, now I have no spares

Image

Yes, it is a Coleman

Image

Cleaning lever with some heat marks. That was not there when I got it.

Image

Brass burner casting. Was nice and brassy looking when I got it. Now kind of darkened

Image

Money shot on the washing machine with the fuel that was in it. I would bet the fuel is about 35+ years old

Image

Birthday card that was in the box. From kids to dad. He is from and old well known family around these parts.

Image

To me it looks like it had been fueled up and a set of mantles tied on and burned in then not used again. The mantles had long ago fallen apart so I put the spare set that was in the box on and fired it up. Had no problems. Only thing I did was clean up the outside a bit and get the mantle dust out of the cage.

Nice light up. All those red globes you can start a new business. :D

Where did you get those any way?

I see your MilSpec has the one piece globe. Is it marked US in olive green? I have one that is so marked. It is put away and I have a regular globe on that lantern for use.
