This is a great thread. I think my mother has some of our family camping gear from the 60s, am going to ask her about it.

My fondest family memories are camp trips.

Might sound corny, but I can cook on the same stove that my grandfather and dad did when I was a kid, the same smell of the white gas and hiss. They are both gone now, but I've got the stove that we all enjoyed. For me those were great times...it cooked my first Rainbow trout!

Doug, now you got me crying thinking about my mom and dad who aren't with us any more. I was adopted as a baby and the very first picture they took is me in a car seat perched on a picnic table with our tent in the background. Mom and Dad were both hunters, fishers, and campers. I grew up in the outdoors and still love it. I sure miss those times.

Not Coleman, but I still have 2 Primus propane lanterns(one without the globe) and a propane 2 burner stove (Primus I think) from around the mid to late 60's my dad bought when I was young. Still use the stove, it's been cleaned and painted a few times but will not die even after 38+ years. Things built like a tank.
I have a MSR Dragonfly you could take to Everest and a Whisperlite that are great stoves but I still like the easy and simplicity of the old family camp stove.

Most people don't realize that you can pick old Coleman stuff up dirt cheap at yard sales & 2nd hand stores. You an get a 50 year old stove running in about 30 minute with a little cleaning and fresh fuel. The lanterns are a little harder but are worth the time.

I was at a swap meet yesterday and saw three older white gas models, Coleman, Sear and no-label. All were in need of restoration but looked ot be working models. Cost was $35, i know my skill set adn walked on by. I believe the Coleman was a model with rounded, not straight glass like the '36 AGM..

Here's my group of stuff....The old family stove is on the far left. Others are finds at thrift stores, e-bay, gifts from customers and ones that I've bought originally. Dates range from the mid 20-s to 2008 Stove on bottom right was in perfect condition till I cooked on it with too large of a skillet....I'm a knucklehead!

Usually it's cleaner...413E early model. I was 1 when we got it. Doug

Yes...one of my dumber moves...had a 12" skillet on it full of chicken at Cave Camp..and the box is much smaller than some of the others I'm used to. I can always do a repaint on it, or if I get a good match (doubtful) ...can shoot it with a detail gun....I guess it's bound to happen...all of my stuff will be "burners". Doug

I bought this a few years ago from a girl across the street in a yard sale. I had never seen one before..........









I put some gas in it and fired it up but it stunk the whole garage up with fumes so I shut it off and put it up in the attic until I found this thread. Probably needs a good cleaning........

While I don't know anything about a heater like that Jeff, I'd think a good cleaning and make sure that all if any of the valves are working correctly. it is a white gas one? It may be overfueling and not allowing a full burn. Do you get a nice red glow to the screen? I think that is sort of the afterburner. A lot of this is new to me and I'm on a learning curve. Maybe Jeremy or others have some insight on it. Sorry, I'm clueless, haven't had one or played with one, but I certainly think it's worth the effort to repair. Most of this type of gear is pretty basic and typically lasts a long time. Thanks for posting your find! Don't give up on it...any one else have a find? Doug

I do not have a clue on the heaters. I haven't used on either.
